Module inserts an extraneous closing span tag in some circumstances

Please see my sandbox for an example. The module inserts a closing </span> tag without opening it first. Can this be fixed? I don't know enough Lua to fix it. Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 10:11, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
