LSI Logic was founded in Milpitas, CA by Wilfred Corrigan in 1981 after he left an executive position with Fairchild Semiconductor. The company was started with $6 million of venture capital and utilized excess capacity at Toshiba for manufacturing, an early example of the fabless semiconductor manufacturing model. In 1998 it bought Symbios Logic from Hyundai. It is often recognized as a pioneer of the ASIC market and in 2006 celebrated its 25th year of business.
Markets
LSI has its hand in the production of video game consoles, DVD and personal video recorders, high-definition video and home media servers. [1]

Acquisitions
In March 2001 LSI Logic acquired C-Cube in a stock-for-stock transaction [2]. In Sep 2001 LSI Logic acquired AMI's RAID adapter division in a cash transaction
In December 2006 LSI Logic acquired Agere in an all stock transaction [3].
