:::I have rejected these in the past. WJBscribe and Secretlondon, you are both bureaucrats. If you found against it, perhaps you should marked it "Not Done," rather than leaving it for another 'crat to pick up. Otherwise we are encouraging (intentional or not) bureaucrat-shopping. Non-latin usernames, as I've stated before, are disrespectful of the main English Wikipedia community, who cannot read these usernames in any sensible manner, and therefore have difficulty forming an impression of who we are speaking to and who is editing articles. I didn't see this in time, or I would have recommended to the user (as I have in other cases) that they register the non-Latin name, and make it a redirect to an Latin-character name. Then everyone should be happy. -- Cecropia (talk) 23:43, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

:I have no objection to this. Unicode fonts are daily more common; copy-and-paste is easy enough. Surely Gangleri will be considerate enough to make the transliteration clear (perhaps in a signature or some such). This is a hard-working and longtime contributor who might just as well have registered his username in Hebrew to begin with (new usernames, contradictorily, are allowed to contain non-Latin characters). Refusing to change his name now seems purposelessly punitive. — Dan | talk 08:02, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Simple username changes

This page hosts simple requests for a username change across the Wikimedia network. Requests are processed by stewards and global renamers.

Instructions
  1. Read Wikipedia:Changing username carefully. You must be aware of and understand all the implications of changing your username. Specifically:
    • Your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited, and in all log entries.
    • Your user pages, account preferences, and edits will be moved to the new name. Please do not create a new account or attempt to move them yourself.
    • Links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be created pointing to your new userpage.
    • Understand that using your real name as your username may put you at risk of harassment.
  2. Read the username policy and ensure your new name does not violate it. Usernames must not:
  3. Check that your new username is not already in use by searching for it on Special:CentralAuth. If the name is registered, even on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
If the target name hasn't made any edits to any Wikimedia project, you may request usurpation at meta:Steward requests/Username changes.
  4. Log in with your current username. Requests will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Place your request here.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=.
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=. Requests without a valid reason will not be approved.
    • Do not change anything else.
  6. Select Publish changes.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any inquiries regarding your request. Consider watching the page so you can monitor updates. Requests may be closed if there are unresolved queries.

Requests that do not follow these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

For stewards, global renamers, and clerks

Only stewards and global renamers have the authority to approve or decline requests. Requests are automatically clerked by a bot, but occasionally human intervention is required, particularly for malformed requests. If you would like to help out with clerking, please see Wikipedia:Changing username/Assistance.

Cmsoma → Conrad E Msoma

Bureaucrat note: are you here to contribute to the encyclopedia? So far your only contribution seems to be writing about yourself at User:Conrad E Msoma. WjBscribe 02:17, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gangleri → לערי ריינהארט

Clerk note: Usernames with non-latin characters are difficult to understand and your reason for the name change is unreadalbe because it is not written in english. Please provide an english reason for your request Alexfusco5 23:42, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The link yi:יידישע וויקיפעדיע#לערי_ריינהארט links to a project of the Wikimedia Foundation the Yiddish Wikipedia.
The section points to « לערי ריינהארט » ; the transcription is « lɛʁi ʁɑjnhɑʁt » ; That's me.
Best regards
‫·‏לערי ריינהארט‏·‏T‏·‏m‏:‏Th‏·‏T‏·‏email me‏·‏‬ 00:01, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: If your name is changed here (Which I assume it will be per Unified Login), could you redirect its English equivalent to your userpage to minimize confusion and make it easier for users to contact you? -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 01:21, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see what any issue would be here. He wants the name “לערי ריינהארט” - it‘s a simple copy-paste. And redirects are created automatically during renames, so unless you delete them when renaming, that’s a non-issue. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 10:53, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: I'm conscious that renames to non-latin usernames have been declined in the past - see [1], [2] - and a related discussion at the Bureaucrat noticeboard. I'm a little reluctant to unilaterally change the approach to these and find Cecropia's argument quite persuasive. Given the inconvenience likely to be caused to other users, are renames to non-latin names desirable? WjBscribe 18:59, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I generally agree with you. The only counter argument is single user login which may or may not happen. Secretlondon (talk) 20:52, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have rejected these in the past. WJBscribe and Secretlondon, you are both bureaucrats. I have no objection to this. Done. — Dan | talk 23:10, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pejoyce → P.E. JOYCE

Clerk note: Putting this here procedurally, but the user should probably log in and comment here to confirm his intentions. —Random832 18:31, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: Its unclear if the user wants this account as well as or instead of their present account... WjBscribe 03:06, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Katherinewelles → JohnnyTwainTonight

Bureaucrat note: Who is Johnny_Twain? Is this a tv programme? Secretlondon (talk) 05:39, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The username policy says you can't name yourself after people, or to promote things. Secretlondon (talk) 05:40, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lollipop-3 → PinkXjellocreature

I have a question, will my userpage be transfered to my new name if this works out?
Clerk note: It will - but all Wikipedia names start with a capital letter (I noticed the edit). -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 07:53, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, that would be great if you could perform the change. X××x××pink×jellocreature××x××X (talk) 07:54, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As for copyright and personal rights, this (obviously) is not the name of a person, and I made the name up myself a year ago.
You may say that I write so much more on my own userpages and talk pages, but Ill have you know that I submitted an article that I wrote which took up a TON of my time, only it got deleted by some admin. The article was on a game called Wajas. The admin said games werent relevant to wikipedia. But seriously! Just go and search runescape or gaia online and look at the big articles on games you get! I dont think that admin liked me. Yes. I know I'm ranting. Sorry. I'll stop now.
gawsh, it's like 12:07 at night and I'm just some little high school student, and I'm just sitting here until you change my username. Sorry, but take some pitty on a little kid! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lollipop-3 (talkcontribs) 08:07, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: Repeatedly posting here isn't going to get a bureaucrat here sooner. I really don't think they care whether or not you're a kid or adult when they prioritize renames; only whether or not you are abusing Wikipedia policies or have an extensive block log do they prioritize because of the complications involved with those. -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 08:16, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's 12:16... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lollipop-3 (talkcontribs) 08:16, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(Reindent) Clerk note: Time-tracking isn't going to get a crat here faster, either. -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 08:22, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reachashish → Ashish.agrawal

Clerk note: All requests must be made while logged in to the account that will be renamed; this request was made by 202.54.176.11 (talk · contribs). Please log in to the account that is to be renamed and confirm this request. Qst 10:39, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not done Please log in and repost your request using the template. Requests for rename made by IP adresses are not granted. Redux (talk) 20:57, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lycantrophe → Lykantrop

Clerk note: Please provide a reason for requesting this rename. Qst (talk) 20:59, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Reason: Lykantrop is shorter (=simpler and quicker to write) and has more international spelling. This is why I used Lykantrop as my username in the internet later (after I logged to Wikipedia) and I would be glad to may use it on Wikipedia too... --Lycantrophe (talk) 16:15, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Donpeake → Don Peake

Bureaucrat note: Is there a reason? Note that you can customize your signature at the Preferences page. That way, whenever you sign with four tildes (~~~~) it would read "Don Peake", regardless of the actual username, and you don't need to have your username changed for that. Redux (talk) 21:11, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: From what I've seen, requests like these are generally accepted because the user made a mistake while registering. -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 07:19, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
