Simple username changes

Shortcuts

This page hosts simple requests for a username change across the Wikimedia network. Requests are processed by stewards and global renamers.

Instructions

Read Wikipedia:Changing username carefully. You must be aware of and understand all the implications of changing your username. Specifically:
- Your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited, and in all log entries.
- Your user pages, account preferences, and edits will be moved to the new name. Please do not create a new account or attempt to move them yourself.
- Links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be created pointing to your new userpage.
- Understand that using your real name as your username may put you at risk of harassment.
Read the username policy and ensure your new name does not violate it. Usernames must not:
- be inappropriate, profane, or offensive
- contain libelous, contentious, or non-public information
- be misleading by impersonating other users or implying that you have authority
- be the name of a company, organization, group; or imply that the account is shared with multiple people
- contain emoji, emoticons, or non-language symbols
- contain the # < > [ ] | { } / @ : = characters, among other restrictions
Check that your new username is not already in use by searching for it on Special:CentralAuth. If the name is registered, even on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
If the target name hasn't made any edits to any Wikimedia project, you may request usurpation at meta:Steward requests/Username changes.
Log in with your current username. Requests will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
Place your request here.
- Add your desired username after NEW=.
- Add a reason for the change after REASON=. Requests without a valid reason will not be approved.
- Do not change anything else.
Select Publish changes.
Check back on this page periodically to answer any inquiries regarding your request. Consider watching the page so you can monitor updates. Requests may be closed if there are unresolved queries.

Requests that do not follow these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Reason: This account has contributions not made by me, on issues I do not want to be associated with in any way. Just created it to upload a some pictures to an article, and both me and the editor overlooked the fact that it kept me signed in on that computer. I use this nickname frequently. Pretty sure I wouldn't qualify for right to vanish (besides that looks even less appropriate for an issue like this), trying to see if I can qualify for username change, at least making it less likely to have them accidentally associated with me. Thank you for your replies.

I registered the account to upload pictures, but hadn't known that Wikipedia is so strict on copyright issues. Couldn't upload the pictures in the end because I did not have sufficient information about their legal status. Those requirements were only displayed after the account was created.

Only the first edit of this account belongs to me.

My account has not been compromised. It was just set on auto sign-in on a computer not exclusively used by me.

Bureaucrat note: Looking through all your edits on all wikis, the only place you have edits is here on enwiki. You say you created the account to upload some pictures, but you have no such contributions on any wiki under this username (unless they've been deleted). Clerk note: @ Joe, The SUL tool includes deleted contributions in its count. Both show 7 at this time. I'm not sure that renaming the account would be a resolution to the stated concerns, but i am also not clear on why the user thinks renaming the account is the best fix. @ Haathen, Could you clarify which edits are not yours or are you saying that the 6 preceding this rename request are not yours edits. I am placing this request on behalf of User:MisterWiki, an indefinitely blocked who contacted me on IRC indicating that he wanted his account renamed. The block will of course still be active on the new account, and redirects will make clear the connection between the two users. I'm not sure what good this does the user, but he seems to want it done, which, in the absence of a good reason to turn him down, is good enough for me. However, since I don't know the circumstances of his block, I thought it best to ask for input from the other bureaucrats.
