Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations: Difference between revisions

"WP:USURP" redirects here. For the guide regarding usurping a page title, see WP:USURPTITLE.

This page was a forum where users could request, and global renamers (including Stewards) familiar with local usurpation guidelines, could consider and carry out, the "usurpation" of usernames primarily held locally. This consisted of renaming an existing account in order to vacate the username and allow another user to take it.

This venue is now closed, and any new usurpation requests should be made at meta:Steward requests/Username changes (see meta:Help:Unified login). If you want your account renamed to a name that is still available, please use Special:GlobalRenameRequest or Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple.

Simplychrisismyusername (talk) 21:09, 4 August 2014 (UTC) Coming back to Wikipedia after a time away, I was unable to log into my account using either my original password or the one generated when I asked for a new one. I was told both that "there is no user called 'Simplychris'" and when I tried to create a new account with the username 'Simplychris' I was told that I couldn't use that name as it was already in use. I realise this is quite what the page is about, but couldn't find anywhere to ask the specific question.
