Abdul-Bari Awad (born March 3, 1990) is a British boxer who fights at Super-Bantamweight. He is the current British, European, Commonwealth and WBC International Super-Bantamweight champion. His professional record stands at 17-0 with 9 knockouts. His ringname is Kid Galahad, after the Elvis Presley film of the same name.[1]
He was born in the Qatar capital Doha. Bari's father was in the Qatari army and was released as part of an agreement with the Americans after the conclusion of the Gulf War. At the age of three, he came to England with his Yemeni parents and eventually ended up in Sheffield. At the age of 13 he took up boxing with Brendan Ingle M.B.E.[2][3]
On 22 March 2014, Galahad won the European Super-Bantamweight championship with a unanimous twelve round decision over Sergio Prado.[4]
On May 10, 2014, Abdul won the vacant Commonwealth Super Bantamweight Championship by beating Fred Mundraby by TKO (Corner retirement) after round 4.
