Simple username changes

Shortcuts

This page hosts simple requests for a username change across the Wikimedia network. Requests are processed by stewards and global renamers.

Instructions

Read Wikipedia:Changing username carefully. You must be aware of and understand all the implications of changing your username. Specifically:
- Your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited, and in all log entries.
- Your user pages, account preferences, and edits will be moved to the new name. Please do not create a new account or attempt to move them yourself.
- Links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be created pointing to your new userpage.
- Understand that using your real name as your username may put you at risk of harassment.
Read the username policy and ensure your new name does not violate it. Usernames must not:
- be inappropriate, profane, or offensive
- contain libelous, contentious, or non-public information
- be misleading by impersonating other users or implying that you have authority
- be the name of a company, organization, group; or imply that the account is shared with multiple people
- contain emoji, emoticons, or non-language symbols
- contain the # < > [ ] | { } / @ : = characters, among other restrictions
Check that your new username is not already in use by searching for it on Special:CentralAuth. If the name is registered, even on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
If the target name hasn't made any edits to any Wikimedia project, you may request usurpation at meta:Steward requests/Username changes.
Log in with your current username. Requests will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
Place your request here.
- Add your desired username after NEW=.
- Add a reason for the change after REASON=. Requests without a valid reason will not be approved.
- Do not change anything else.
Select Publish changes.
Check back on this page periodically to answer any inquiries regarding your request. Consider watching the page so you can monitor updates. Requests may be closed if there are unresolved queries.

Requests that do not follow these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Please note that renaming users puts a large load on the database. Please do not request a rename unless it is necessary. If you have only a few edits, see the alternatives above.

Please, please use the form shown in the green box below. Please.
Do not put any special characters (- -, / /, [ ], " ", etc.) around the usernames. Bureaucrats copy usernames to prevent misspellings, and adding extra characters to set off the username increases the chance you will be renamed to the wrong name!
Sign your name at the end with four tildes: ~~~~
If your change request is granted, be sure to Move your userpage [alt-m] to your new userpage location (do not simply copy and paste your userpage text).

Add new requests to the bottom of the section.

zappa

Please change zappa.jake to zappa. This is a semi-usurpation. zappa exists, but has no edits. I registered the account a while back to prevent impersonation, as I used just "zappa" as my signature for a while. User:Zappa redirects to User:Zappa.jake, same with the talk pages. If you want me to post here as zappa, to prove that I am the one who registered the account, I would be happy to do so. The reason for this is that I think some people are confused by the period in my username, and also that I just don't want my full name out there as my user name, as it has led to a personal attack in the past: [1] (On a second edit to my talk page (now deleted) he attempted to post personal information about me, such as my address and phone number.) I can do that, as soon as I am able to long into zappa. None of my four usual passwords are working, so I had a new one sent to me via email, but none of my three active emails are getting the message. Could I be a *really* huge pain here, and ask if you could please find out what email it was sent to? That would be way excellent, dude.
