:Wikipedia is generally not written by people who abide by Islamic law or belief. As people committed to discussing subjects in a historical perspective, we here are all honor-bound not to honor requests by people of any religion for such a thing. We aim for a critical perspective, not a religious one. We understand that Muslims, Jews, Christians and others are thus disturbed by the way that our entries describe their faiths, but that is the nature of our project. RK |

This page is rediculus. The page clearly shows that Muslims hold their religion higher than any other religion. But which religious person does NOT think his or her religion is better than any other? |

:You misunderstand the article. That is not the point. The point is to describe Islamic prejudice and anti-Semitism towards Jewish people. And also note that this article is still in a new state; much more needs to be added.) Jews have suffered from anti-Semitism in Islam for 1300 years, and many books have been written about this subject. In the West, even Muslims themselves have written much about Anti-Semitism in Islam. This is not anti-Islamic; this is merely a historical view of the subject. RK |

It's misleading becasue Judaism is a faith. Zionism is an extremist genocidal political ideology that is settler colonial in nature. |
All (monotheistic) religions mythology is more or less racist when you take it out of their historical context. Calling an entire religion racist shows a great disrespect for its worshippers and a deep ignorance towards the religion. This page needs to be reworked, deleted or renamed.. how do you do that? --BL |

:Firts off, you need to spend some time here reading the major entries on Judaism, Christianity and Islam! All of our entries do describe these religions in their historic context. If your reading of Wikipedia's articles on Islam leads you to believe that Islam is inhernetly racist, then that is your considered opinion. But nothing in this entry, nor in the Islam entry, makes that claim anywhere. It seems to be your personal conclusion. RK |

::What about the sentence "Anti-Semitism in Islam has developed over time"? More fundamentally, what about the page title? "Anti-semitism in Islam" seems to suggest that such anti-Semitism actually exists. I would suggest it be renamed to "Alleged anti-Semitism in Islam" if it wasn't for the fact that the article doesn't seem to actually include any allegations. It seems to me that if this article is to have any credibility, it needs to attribute the view that Islam is anti-Semitic to particular people or groups. If the article is renamed in this way, and the contents are changed to statements along the lines of "A says Islam is anti-Semitic because of B" then I don't think anybody will be able to complain about the article. --Camembert |

I can't imagine what Camembert is talking about; this article already does explcitly state that anti-Semitism exists in Islam. How is this not clear? And no sane person denies that millions of Muslims are virutlently anti-Semitic. Today, as we speak, Islamic television stations, radio stations, and publishing houses continue to publicise as factual the notorious anti-Semitic forgery, "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion"; they publish and promote Adolph Hitler's "Mein Kampf", and millions of Arabs cheer on homicide-bombers who blow up children on their way to school by the dozens. Hundreds of Islamic Arab anti-Semitic websites exist that explicitly state that all Jews are evil, and that Judaism must be destroyed. Muslims themselves in the West have written much about the widespread anti-Semitism in Islam, and why it is on the rise. No sane, honest person can deny its existence. Come off it. RK |

:But none of this stuff is in the article! Anyway, I'm certainly not denying that some Muslims are anti-Semitic - it is clear that some are. But just because lots of Muslims are anti-Semitic doesn't make Islam inherently anti-Semitic. Or so it seems to me. |

::There is a major misperception about this article. This entry does not claim that all of Islam is inherently anti-Semitic. Rather, it is about anti-Semitism in Islam. There is also an article on anti-Semitism in the United States; that does not mean that the entire USA is Anti-Semitic. Similarly, there is an article on Anti-Semitism in Poland; that does not mean that all Poles are anti-Semitic! RK |
:::OK, I've misunderstood. In my defence, the only content here when I wrote that were quotes from the Qur'an, and so the article seemed to be saying "Look - the Quran is anti-Semitic". And as every Muslim follows the guidance of the Qur'an, it seemed to me that the article was, in fact, making the claim that Islam was inherently anti-Semitic. --Camembert |
And I'm sorry, but I don't see where in the article it is explicitly stated that anti-Semitism exists in Islam apart from right at the beginning where we have "Some Jews consider this a denial of thier affinity with Abraham and to be anti-Semitic", which I must say, seems like a bit of a stretch to me (could the reason why they consider this to be anti-Semitic be added, perhaps?). If there's something else in the article, I'd be grateful if you could point it out to me. --Camembert |

:This isn't obivous to you? How would you like if several milenna later, someone came and copied your family tree, wrote themselves into it, and then denied that you were the real heir to your own ancestor? Them's fighting words to most people. RK |

::I don't know how I'd feel - it isn't a situation I can possibly relate to. I doubt, however, that I would use the reasoning "X thinks that Y is an ancestor of his and not of Z; therefore X hates all Zs". I can understand Z not liking it, but not him seeing it as an act of sheer hatred of all Zs. But my views are irrelevant, of course. If it's the case that most Jews feel this is anti-Semitic, then that's fine. Thanks for the clarification. --Camembert |

Right now the article describes the Islamic view of "the People of the Book". That view cannot be anti-Semitic as it both includes Christians and Jews. Besides, the name imposes that there IS anti-Semitism in Islam which is not a universially agreed upon fact. The title needs to be "Islam and the People of the Book" or something like that. THEN let the reader figure out the rest. As it is now, the title is biased. --BL |
:Right. And it is also not universally agreed that the Earth is flat. But nothing is universally agreed upon. I am beginning to suspect that you are trolling. |
::I think BL's point was that the article is wholly about Islamic views of People of the Book and not really about anti-Semitism per se at all. --Camembert |

:::There are about 800 million Muslims in the world. Many of them would be very upset if we called their religion anti-Semitic. And even the common view among non-Muslims toward Islam is not that it is a racist religion. |

:Based on verses from the Quran, many Muslims hold that a Muslim should never be friends with Jews or Christians. This view is still held by many Muslims today, especially those within, but not limited to, the Islamist movement. |
::"O believers, take not as your friends those of them, who were given the Book before you, and the unbelievers, who take your religion in mockery and as a sport" (V: The Table: 60); and "O believers take not Jews and Christians as friends; they are friends of each other. Whoso of you makes them his friends is one of them " ( V. The Table: 55 ) |
This paragraph and quote is neither common knowledge nor is it referenced. Sure, a Muslim can find some arguments to hate Christians and Jews from the Quran but he or she can find at least as many (if not more) counter arguments from it to be friends with them. And the important question is, does Muslims use this quote (or other similar quotes from the Quran) to justify hatred towards Jews and Christians? |
:This is an outright lie. This quote is very common knowledge among Muslims, and it is often used to promote hatred among Jews. It appears in many Muslim websites and printed books and newspapers. Only someone with a total ignorance of the subject - or an agenda to flat-out lie - would claim otherwise. For shame. RK |
::If it is used so frequently to promote hatred of Jews, then you'll be able to add an example of such a use, presumably. I'll be much happier if such a citation is added - this article might start to have some substance then. --Camembert |
:::I think RK has confused anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism. Many sites are anti-Zionist (both Muslim and non-Muslim ones) not many are anti-Semitic. Those that are does not use the quote as it targets both Christians and Jews. |

::::COUGH More word games, considering that in practice, all Jews (and everyone sympathetic to them) are called "Zionists" by Muslims. --User:LenBudney |

Len brings up a good point. As a Jew who has read many articles on this issue, I just assumed that this was common knowledge. But for those not in the know, most Muslims use the word Jew and Zionist as synonyms. In fact, many Saudia Arabian documents often try to hide anti-Semitism by their own government officials, by translating the Arabic word for "Jew" in their English translations as "Zionist". Unfortunately for them, some American newspapers picked up on this trick, and exposed the fact that in Arabic, all their tirades about "Zionists" are actually tirades about "the Jews". Sadly, many newspapers don't ever bother to compare the original Arabic with the sanitized translations that they provide. RK |

:Anti-Semitism in Islam has developed over time; some hold that it's roots do not stretch back to Muhammad himself. The forms of Anti-Semitism extant in Islam today come from a number of causes, including the assimilation of anti-Semitism from neighboring Christian civilizations, the resurgence of Islamic fundamentalism; the need for the secular Arab nationalist to have a clearly identified enemy, and the extremely wide self-perception that all Arabs are being victimized by some Jewish conspiracy to control the middle-east. |
This is speculations and has not much to do with reality. I dont think they are fit as they deal with anti-Semitism in Islamic societies and not anti-Semitism in Islam which is a big difference. --BL |

::More dishonest wordgames. You should be ashamed of yourself. This is just a variation of the "No True Scottsman fallacy". Look it up. No one here, if any religion, agreed with your warped reasoning. By your logic, you could claim that there was no anti-Semitism in Christianity, only anti-Semitism that happens to be in Christian societies. Well, BL, they mean the same thing. Islamic societies are made up of Muslims, just as Christian societies are made up of Christians, and Jewish societies are made up of Jews. Stop playing word games in order to deny undeniable facts. :::I really don't understand this - sorry, I must be thick or something. London is made up of Londoners, so if some Londoners are anti-Semitic, does that make London an anti-Semitic city? ::::Im a Christian, I have read the Bible, and although Im no expert I can honestly say that there is no anti-Semitism whatsoever in Christianity. The crusaders were certainly anti-Semitic (in the word's true sense) does it make the RELIGION anti-Semitic? No it doesnt because the religion is not dependant on its practicians. A religion is a philosofy of life. ... Sorry if i repeated some thing I fell into an editing conflict. --BL |

:::You seem to have cause and effect mixed up. For instance, I believe Hitler's anti-Semitism has more to do with him being a Nazi, and less to do with the fact that his mother tongue was German. If you make the claim the speaking German gives you anti-Semitical thoughts, you'd better have a lot of proof indicating that. Nobody's denying the fact that anti-Semitism exists among some Muslims (as well as Christians, Hindus, etc.), but attributing this to their creed is a pretty gross allegation. See: http://www.nizkor.org/features/fallacies/confusing-cause-and-effect.html --Gabbe |

Heh. I was recently listening to a rare creature on Arutz Sheva--an extreme right-wing Israeli. He agreed with you, saying, "It is not true that Arabs are violent and murderous because of Islam. Rather, Islam is violent and murderous because of Arabs." Strictly speaking, you (and this commentator) could be right; it might be tough to establish causality for certain here. Out of curiosity, to what do you attribute the almost universal anti-semitism in the Muslim world today? --User:LenBudney |
:See, there's your problem right there. I do not acknowledge "the almost universal anti-semitism in the Muslim world today", and I certainly don't attribute it to their religion. W.A.R. is a christian organization, but I have a hard time believing that the Pope approves of their actions because of this. I don't see my local pastor (despite such overt passages as Titus 1:14, Matthew 23:15, I Thessalonians 2:14-16, etc.) claiming that adepts of Christianity should "be watchful" of "those perfidious Jews". I have several Muslim friends, and none of them have anything negative to say about Jews as an ethnic group. The violence among many Palestine terrorist groups is due to (an in my mind unsubstantiated) quest for liberation of Palestine, and as such would have been doing the same deeds to the British, had they still been in rule. There are undeniably groups who are indeed anti-Semitical (not just anti-Israel or anti-Zionist) but saying this is "almost universal" among Muslims is without a doubt a serious overgeneralization. Among the (almost) one billion Muslims in the world, how many are anti-Semitical? Higher than 5%? |
::Oh give us all a break. Give one example of a publication in the Muslim world which does not take an anti-Jewish stance. Give one example of a Muslim rally for peace with Israel (and I'll give you dozens of examples of rallies of Jews for Palestinian statehood). Point to a single pro-Jewish statement by a Muslim, anywhere, anytime. "Higher than 5%"? Are you nuts? --User:LenBudney |
::Anyone who doesn't recognize the existence of the almost universal anti-semitism in the Muslim world today is, literally, ignorant of this subject. Millions of Muslims across the globe preach and teach horribly hateful things about Jews. This fact is extremely well documented, and it isn't even disputed by non-fundamentalist Muslims in the West. The fact that "your friends" don't say anti-Semitic things doesn't change beliefs of millions of other Muslims across the world. RK |
:::Well that's it. I give up. I see now that you are so convinced of your point that any further discussion would be useless. If I gave you lots of examples of pacifistic, tolerant and indeed respectful Muslims, I would still not change your mind that "almost all" Muslims are anti-Semites (many of the "just in secret", without ever revealing their true clandestine intentions). If I see Muslims befriending Jews, it is because the Muslims want to "keep up the appearance" that they aren't anti-Semites. "The Palestine Center for Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation" for instance don't count, do they? "The Jakarta Post" published in the world's largest Muslim nation (Indonesia) is "just behaving" when it isn't writing anti-Semitical diatribes, right? I see this going on for years. There is no doubt in my mind that you guys have more vigor than I will ever have. I will not waste any more energy. You go ahead and make the Wikipedia as POV as you want it to be, I don't care. I hereby withdraw from debate on this issue. --Gabbe 03:45 Dec 13, 2002 (UTC) |

Thanks for pointing out the "Palestine Center for Conflict Resolution"; it certainly answers my request for an example of Muslim non-anti-semitism. At least, taking them at face value, they are a positive development. Note that their web page counts as proof that anti-semitism and violence are ubiquitous, which was the original point. Nobody claimed that all Muslims are anti-semitic--though the phenomenon is so ubiquitous, that I challenged to you produce even ONE counterexample, which you appear to have done. You have not, however, proven that anti-semitism is rare in the Muslim world, let alone the ridiculous "5%" "statisitc" you suggested. --User:LenBudney |

It looks like some very inaccurate translation and referencing is going on here, may I suggest people quote from one of the three translations given at http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/quran/ noting if there is any significant difference in the translations. --Imran 23:11 Dec 11, 2002 (UTC) |

:I've done as you suggest, using the Yusufali translation in each case, except the first quote, where I used the Pickthal, because it seemed closer to what we had here before. People can argue over the translations if they like, but the verse numbers as given before were just wrong. I seem to remember they were fixed once before, but were changed back again for some reason - hopefully they will stick this time. --Camembert |

I taught thee the Book and Wisdom, the Law and the Gospel and behold! thou makest out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, by My leave, and thou breathest into it and it becometh a bird by My leave, and thou healest those born blind, and the lepers, by My leave. And behold! thou bringest forth the dead by My leave. And behold! I did restrain the Children of Israel from (violence to) thee when thou didst show them the clear Signs, and the unbelievers among them said: 'This is nothing but evident magic.' |

::This looks like some sort of endorsement of Jesus Christ. Comments, anybody? --Uncle Ed |

:::Muslims certainly do endorse Jesus as being a messiah, but their idea of a messiah is more human, more like the Jewish concept of a messiah. They reject the idea that Jesus is God, or part of the Trinity, or anything related to that. But they do hold him in high respect, and hold him to be one of their great prophets. RK |

:::As RK says, Jesus is seen as a prophet and a messenger of Allah, but he is not seen as Allah himself. He's compared to Adam: "He created him from dust, then said to him: "Be". And he was." (3:59). That is false. Similarly "Anti-Semitism in Poland" claims that in Poland there is anti-Semitism. That is a correct statement, there is anti-Semitism in Poland. But is there anti-Semitism in Islam, the RELIGION Islam? If you want more comparsions look at the article detaling Christianity and anti-Semitism - its naturally called "Christianity and anti-Semitism". ::I reject this categorically. This is already the second title for this article. If we made the change you asked, then someone would come along and make the same claim. The problem isn't the title; its that people read what they want to read, rather than what is on the page. RK |

:Do you realise that Abraham is nothing more than a mythological figure? If the Jews are Abrahams real ancestors then Im Adams firstborn. Now the Christians trace Jesus back to Abraham and should then be said to be violating Abraham at least as much as the Muslims. But neither Christians nor Muslims think it is racist. They are merely suggesting that the Jews might be wrong. |

::Ah! Ye are those who fell to disputing (Even) in matters of which ye had some knowledge! but why dispute ye in matters of which ye have no knowledge? It is Allah Who knows, and ye who know not! |

:: Incidently RK you're mistaken what 3:68 means, it doesn't deny jewish ancestry from Abraham, but rather taken in context means that he followed the true religion, remember of course that according to Islam, Judasim was once accurate but became corrupted over time. So in essence he was a Jew, but not a Jew as the people of the time (c. 640CE) understood it.--Imran 02:01 Dec 13, 2002 (UTC) |

:::You are totally misreading and misrepresenting the Muslim point of view. Muslims believe that Abraham's religion was Islam, and not Judaism. Please do not twist their words to mean anything else. |
:::: Islam holds that Christianity and Judaism were accurate at one point but became corrupted over time, at the times when they were founded they were the correct religion. Of course Abraham wasn't a Muslim according to the current meaning as defined in the Koran, as the Koran wasn't in existence then. However it is held that the he believed in God in the correct manner which applies equally to early Christianity and Judaism. |
:::Yes, Muslims do not deny that Jews are related biologically to Abraham, but that was never the point. The point is that Muslims came along many centuries later, and retroactivly accused the Jewish faith of being a bunch of lies, and saying that all along the Bible was about Islam. They also explicitly accused "the Jews" of deliberately falsifying the entire Hebrew Bible and lying about God's word, and that only in Islam does the true story come out. |

:Not entirely true. Many Muslims use the words interchangeably but many others does too (non-Jews, Jews and Muslims alike). Many others are very careful not to mix the two words, anti-Zionist Jews and Yassir Arafat comes to mind. (http://www.playboy.com/magazine/historic/arafat/index.html) --BL |

:Better back that up with quotes. I have never once, ever heard anyone use the term "Zionist" as synonymous with "Jew" except Muslims (and one or two non-Muslim who happened to be quoting verbatim from Islamic propaganda, including the usual assertion that Ashkenazim are not actually Semitic). When Jews use the term "Zionist", they refer to a particular narrowly defined philosophical construct, not to Jews in the aggregate. Non-Jews, for the most part, don't really know what a "Zionist" is. --User:LenBudney |
::Quote from anti-zionism "Supporters of the State of Israel hold that in the vast majority of cases ideological anti-Zionists are also anti-Semites, combining the two concepts in a way that cancels the distinction between them. They hold that the conceptual denial of the right of Jews for a state is indicative of considering Jews inferior - which is exactly anti-Semitism. In addition, they claim that anti-Zionists fail to distinguish between Israel the state, and Israelis and Jews as individuals, and argue this is a form of anti-Semitic demonization and hatred" |
::In effect, if you aren't a zionist, you are an anti-semite. Now granted Zionists do believe that some Jews are anti-semites. Though the result is the same as the belief that zionist is synonymous with Jew, is synonymous with the State of Israel. Karl |
:::That is totally false. Most people in the world are NON-Zionists, and none of them are being accused of anti-Semitism. It is only the people who actively deny these basic human rights to Jews alone that are suspected of being anti-Semitic. RK |

OK, I've gone away and had a think about this, and read some things, and I've changed my opinion on a few things. However, I still have reservations about these "People of the Book" quotes. As BL says above, "People of the Book" are Christians and Jews - is it really true to say, then, that statements against People of the Book are anti-Semitic? |
:That is not the claim being made. Please re-read the text. This article is about attacks against Jews. If you want a separate article about how Muslims feel about Christians, by all means please start one. RK |
::So you're saying that those verses are not quoted to demonstrate anti-Semitism? If they're not, why are they in the article? If this article is about "attacks against Jews", it shouldn't be - it should be, according to the title, about anti-Semitism. If the page was renamed "Islam's relationship to Jews" (or "...to Judaism") then I no longer have a problem. --Camembert |
:::I am afraid that I don't follow you. I do know that you don't appear to understand any of my latest point. Are you aware that the term "anti-Semitism" means "being against Jews"? I can't make any sense of your latest statement - unless you are using some unique definition of anti-Semitism that I just am not familiar with. RK |
::My point is that most of this article is not obviously about anti-Semitism. The anti-Semitism article says "Anti-Semitism is hostility or violence toward people because of their Jewish ancestry" and later "Disagreement with the religion of Judaism, as such, does not constitute anti-Semitism." It seems to me that all this stuff about People of the Book (which would apply also to a greater degree to Hindus, Buddhists, atheists, etc) is more of a disagreement over which religion is "correct", than a hatred of Jews simply because they are Jews. The disagreement stems not from the fact that they are Jewish, but from the fact that they are not Muslims. As I say below, this is a subtle distinction, perhaps, but it can lead to a lot of bad feeling, and I think it might have a lot to do with all the vigorous discussion above. --Camembert |
Aren't they more anti-kaafir than anti-Jew? OK, maybe this is a pretty subtle distinction, but it's an important one, I think. It seems to me that these verses aren't really about anti-Semitism, but rather anti-non-Islam. Am I being overly picky here? If I am not (and I don't think I am) then I think this reinforces my belief that the view that these verses are anti-Semitic is in need of attribution. Something simple like "group X believes this to equate to anti-Semitism" will do, but as it stands, I don't think it will be obvious to all people what these verses have to do with anti-Semitism. --Camembert |
:There is a lot more that is going to be added to this article, about anti-Semitism in Islam from 1000 CE to the present day. And this material will very clearly be about attitudes towards Jewish people, and Jewish people alone. RK |
Well, I can't speak about how the article will be in the future, only how it is now. And as it is now, it isn't clear to me what most of it has to do with anti-Semitism. The first paragraph, for instance, seems to be going out of its way to show that Islam is not anti-Semitic, and much of the following section of the Quran seems to be like this as well (quite apart from dispute over whether anti-non-Muslim==anti-Semite). That's why I think it might be better to move the page to something like "Islam's relationship to Jews" and then point out individual charges of anti-Semitism as and when they come up in the article. As it stands, the title leads one to assume that the article will be wholly about anti-Semitism; so when somebody comes across something that they don't think is anti-Semitism, they disagree, argue, and there's a lot of unproductive talk (ss we've had here). A page rename would solve this problem, it seems to me. But anyway, I'll leave this page and discussion be for a couple of weeks, and come back later to see how it looks. Good luck to all. --Camembert |
:Now that two new sections have been added, I trust that your questions about the title of this article have been answered. Of course, I have only added the tiniest percent of examples and subjects that this entry will eventually cover. The widespream anti-Semitism that used to exist among many Muslims in the past, and which has become again resurgent in the last century, is well-documented; hundreds of books, newspaper articles and journal articles have been written about this subject. RK |
---- |
RK it seems to me that you are a Jew. Why not write an article about those of the Jewish faith being Anti-Islamic, I'm sure you know a lot about it. I don't beleive you look at this matter in a historical perspective but rather a religious one. |
:Dear Anonymous. Your ad-homenin personal attacks illustrate the problem of anti-Semitism that this article is discussing. Thanks for proving my point! |
RK Muslims refer to Christian and Jews as People of the Book of GOD, they beleive in the same GOD. They beleive that GOD was one who sent down Moses to deliver HIS people. Mohammad respected Jews. True Muslims RESPECT JEWS. It is against the religion to go against the PEOPLE OF THE BOOK, which includes JEWS. |
:Then what do you make of all the quotes here? Why are you angry at me? If you are being honest (which seems doubtful) then your rage and anger should be aimed at all those Muslims who slander Jews, and who call for Jews to be murdered by Muslims. Yet I note that you don't have any problem with any of the quotes here. From what you have written so far, you seem to agree with the Muslim position. I, therefore, am terrified of your idea of "respect"! RK |
If it wasn't for Muslims and their toleration towards people of the Jewish faith they would have never existed and they would have never been the cause of a Muslim's pain and suffering all around the world. |
:I see that you too believe in the anti-Semitic conspiracy theory that "the Jews" are responsible for all suffereing of Muslims across the world. Again, your own hateful words prove my point about how many Muslims have anti-Semitic beliefs. This is something that you should reflect on. Making personal attacks towards me won't help anyone. RK |
Something you'll never understand, because you are ignorant and you refuse to understand or even accept the reality of such things. You are one who makes a Muslim and a Jew's life worst with your prejudice articles and you're ridiculous comments. Jews should not be hurt by a TRUE MUSLIM who is obligatd to tolerate and respect the followers of such a faith. HOW DID I PROVE YOUR POINT? |
---- |
Now this article has gone through a few revelations and I really think it is great that so much new info has been added (RK i guess?) but there is still alot to object to. |
=== The Quran's statement about Jews === |
Now it has already been explained to you, RK, that the Quran does speak about the People of the Book - Christians and Jews. Not only Jews. Now this articles purpose is to explain Islam's (alleged) relashionship with anti-Semitism in a fair manner right? So please dont distort the article. |
(B)For example if I say "I hate everyone!" would an article about me saying "BL is an anti-Semite" without mentioning that "not only does BL hate Jews, he also hate everyone else" be truthful? Hardly. |
=== Both the Quran and the Torah claims Abraham (known as Ibrahim in the Quran) to be their first patriarch; the Quran denies that Abraham should be considerd a Jew, and instead labels him a Muslim. === |
Same thing here. ABRAHAM IS IMPORTANT TO THREE RELIGIONS NOT TWO. When you strip the context you can get anything, but context is critical when you want for truth. |
=== MOST Jews consider this to be both an unhistorical usurpation of their own religious heritage, and in effect an anti-Semitic denial of their own legitimacy. === |
(A) This is an unreferenced claim which I'm not familiar with. It is disputed and therefore should not be used until someone can bring up a reference. |
=== Islam mandates a LIMITED level of tolerance for both Jews and Christians, as long as they agree to live under Islamic rule. Early verses in the Quran limit religious disputations with them to those occurring in a fair manner. === |
LIMITED is correct if you compare medieval Islam with todays standards. But if you insert it into its historical context it is entierly false. |
=== And those of the People of the Book who aided them - Allah did take them down from their strongholds and cast terror into their hearts. (So that) some ye slew, and some ye made prisoners. And He made you heirs of their lands, their houses, and their goods, and of a land which ye had not frequented (before). And Allah has power over all things." (XXXIII - The Confederates: 26-7) === |
I have some objections against using quotes from the Quran like this. All translations of the Quran are very old and it is in itself a very difficult book to interpret probably even harder than the Bible (and ofcourse, it is not true to Muslims unless its written in Arabic). According to Muslim sources (http://www.angelfire.com/mo2/scarves/quran.html) these verses deals with Allah's almighty power - those who believe will win and those who do not will die and so on: |
"Allah then states the result of that true belief in the face of that strong enemy a result which comes when the believer truly believes in what Allah has promised and stated in the Qur'aan, as described earlier: And Allah turned back the unbelievers for (all) their fury. No advantage did they gain. Sufficient is Allah for the believers in their fight. And Allah is full of Strength, Able to enforce His Will. (XXXIII - The Confederates: 25)" |
=== These verses refer to actual historical events, specifically Mohammed's attack on the Jewish community of Khyber, and the attacks then waged on the Christian Arab tribes in the region. === |
This seems to be entierly true, at the attack on Khyber the Muslims where outnumbered and there is some myth about how Mohammed prayed alot and how they won with Allah's help. But the verses doesnt say anything about that "Muslims have the right to wage war against Jews and Christians". |
=== Based on verses from the Quran, many Muslims hold that a Muslim should never be friends with Jews or Christians. This view is still held by many Muslims today, especially those within, but not limited to, the Islamist movement. === |
Unreferenced paragraph see (A). |
=== Muhammed teaches that Muslims have the right to wage war against Jews (and Christians) under some restricted conditions === |
Hehe Muhammed waged wars against everyone. :-) |
=== Islamic claims that Jews are "the sons of pigs and apes === |
Transformation to an animal as a punishment is a reoccuring concept in Islam. Not ONLY Jews were turned into creatures, everyone who commited a grave sin could be turned into one - even Muslims. We are not giving the right impression about Islam if we only mention Jews. See (B). |
Finally, I think a lot of content on this page should me moved to Arab anti-Semitism. Because if the anti-Semitism has nothing to do with Islam it doesn't belong on this page. --BL |

[edit]It's misleading becasue Judaism is a faith. Zionism is an extremist genocidal political ideology that is settler colonial in nature.
This a propaganda piece aimed to serve the settler colony on top of occupied Palestine and it has nothing to do with the relationship between Judaism and Islam! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.236.52.253 (talk) 03:57, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
