Pet sitting is a job taking care of a pet or pets in their own home during the absence of their owner. Often looked at as an alternative to catteries and kennels, this service has become very popular with pet owners in recent years with many people setting up pet sitting services to cash in on the boom.

Due to this largley un-regulated explosion of new business, governments throughout the world have been forced to implement legislation to protect the owners of pets who use this type of service which also over spilled into other pet services becoming the norm.

Services like dog walking and home boarding came under attack in 2006 when UK Government brought in new by laws to prevent "Dog Walkers" walking more than 6 dogs at once and home the boarding of animals (Looking after pets in the carers home - not that of the owner) was modified to come under the Animal Boarding Establishments Act in order to prevent too many pets being looked after in un-suitable environments by unqualified individuals.

Spin Off organisations were later set up in an effort to list "good" people and business who can carry out these services. However, these quickly became directories designed to help the site owners profit from pet owners insecurities and most lost their integrity and started to concentrate on profits by simply listing anyone who would pay them.
