Don't Leave!!!

Please don't go, AM! We need great contributers like you! Take a small WikiBreak, and see how things play out. Just please, please don't leave! And if you can, reply on my talk page (if you wanna reply). Hoping you don't WikiQuit, •The RSJ(Say What?!CCDGive Me Some Ideas!) 02:06, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, RSJ. I'm sorry that it has taken me so long to respond. Unfortunately, I'm still a bit tied up with some personal issues, but I hope to be editing again soon. I'm not sure that I'll ever resume editing at my earlier pace, but I hope to not WikiQuit. Thanks for your kind words. --After Midnight 0001 01:23, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:USA Mens National Team.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:USA Mens National Team.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --BaldClarke 15:34, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

Hello, After Midnight. I’ve resumed editing Wikipedia at a greatly reduced pace; I just thought I’d check to see what you were up to and see that you’re on a break. I hope you’ll be able to take care of your other matters; it would be nice to see you around here again. — Knowledge Seeker 04:40, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Knowledge Seeker. Thanks for checking in on me. I'm sorry that it has taken me so long to respond. I've not quite resolved my personal issues, but things are looking better and I hope to have things settled by the start of the new year. I've got to make sure that I am taking care of my family and my career, first and foremost, but I would like to be able to be back here again with more regularity soon. --After Midnight 0001 01:50, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have completed the history merge of René Thomas (France) and René Thomas at the first article, while leaving the disambug history at the second article. Just edit the non-disambug'd one back to where it should be now. -Royalguard11(Talk·Desk·Review Me!) 04:05, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well done. Thanks. --After Midnight 0001 16:10, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar!

A Barnstar!
The Barnstar of High Culture

For your work in maintaining, creating and enhancing articles relating to Miss America pageants and titleholders, I award you the Barnstar of High Culture -- PageantUpdatertalk

I've been watching you work away at the Miss America articles and titleholders and am very impressed and pleased someone is willing to work on them... my bent is more Miss USA & Teen USA and whilst I did a bit of work on the Miss America state articles they were definitely in need of some tlc! Keep up the good work :) -- PageantUpdatertalk | contribs | esperanza 22:32, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Keeping it going is what is tricky... I started with the easiest ones where information was available on state websites but soon ran out of steam... then added some lists from the Miss AMerica website... but of course they only run till 1997... then created some stub pages to save red links! Anyway good luck... I'll be watching the pages and coming in at the end with the Miss USA/Teen USA crossovers from Pageant Almanac :) -- PageantUpdatertalk | contribs | esperanza 22:51, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have no idea whether you can be bothered but it might be worth pulling this article into the table format used for other states... If you start to get frustrated/bored/etc as you go through the states I'd be happy to add all the awards/placements/notes etc for you! Just let me know if you need any help with anything :) -- PageantUpdatertalk | contribs | esperanza 22:38, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Right now I am just making a few quick edits, but I did notice the format on that one and at least one other (North Dakota). I will take care of both of them as I continue to go through the states alphabetically as I get more time in another editing session. I think that I've finished the "I"'s so Kansas will be my next project. I've noticed you following along after me with the awards/etc where I didn't have them. Also, thanks for cleaning the names up after me. I've been (as you probably noticed) taking the name verbatim from the state web site in most cases, since I don't have all the detail for the maiden/common names. I hope you don't mind and feel free to keep it up. I've got a pretty good system of getting things into tables, so I am trying to concentrate there first and I appreciate that you are correcting/adding details as necessary. BTW, I am a "team player", so if you have any preferences of how I might do something, please feel free to express that to me. --After Midnight 0001 22:51, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well I think the way we've been working has actually been really good... I discovered first hand that I can't do everything without losing interest quickly, but once the tables are set up its easy for me to whip through and add placements etc which is the sort of thing I like! You keep doing what you're doing and I'll come in afterwards and finish them off :) PS have you considered joining WikiProject Beauty Pageants? -- PageantUpdatertalk | contribs | esperanza 22:59, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I just took a look at the WikiProject and saw that you probably want {{WikiProject Beauty Pageants}} on the talk pages of all these state pageant articles. After I've gotten to the end of the alphabet (and created the states which are currently redlinks), I'll go back and put the template on all of them using AWB. If I forget to later, just remind me. Also, since it is pretty easy with AWB, I can add it to other articles for you as well, when the time comes. I imagine it will be pretty easy for me to make a list, assuming that all the articles are in one of your WP Categories. --After Midnight 0001 02:26, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for prompting me to check out AWB... I love it! Have already started adding some templates... -- PageantUpdatertalk | contribs | esperanza 02:30, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My pleasure. Glad you like it. I'll watch to make sure that I don't accidentally try to make the same changes at the same time.... --After Midnight 0001 02:34, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In response to your queries...

When I was creating the missing Miss America articles, I created BeBe Shopp for 1948. I noticed today that you created Miss Minnesota with Beatrice Shopp. Do you have any opinion about which of these should be the article vs. the redirect? I would consider you to know better than I regarding which name is used more commonly when referring to her.

Also, you may want to take a look at the Ann Penelope Marston article. I came across it working on Miss Michigan, and didn't know if it just had some typos or if there was more that was wrong with it. BTW, should articles like this be added to Category:Miss America delegates? --After Midnight 0001 16:35, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently her name is "Beatrice Bella "BeBe" Shopp"! From everything I've read BeBe Shopp seems to be the norm so will fix Miss Minnesota accordingly :)
When it comes to articles like Ann Penelope Marston (and I love when blue links pop up and they are actually about the girl in question!) the best thing to do, if you can be bothered, is to whip through them, make sure the pageant name is correctly linked (sometimes they get the America/USA titles mixed up etc) and yes, it is good to add the Miss America delegates cat. That article needs a wee bit of work... didn't even believe it myself at first but I've found a source so that should be fine... -- PageantUpdatertalk | contribs | esperanza 19:10, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Miss America progress

FYI. I thought that I would give you an update of where things are with the Miss America articles.

  • For Category:Miss America winners
    • All winners have an article (many are stubs)
    • I have tagged the talk pages for all the articles with the project template.
  • For Category:Miss America state pageants
    • All states have an article
    • I have created and/or filled up the tables will all the info that I have.
      • If you have more data that you want me to add using my "table magic" just point me to it and I can work them off.
    • I have tagged the talk pages for all the articles with the project template.
    • I have checked all the blue links for the non-winner delegates and made sure that it was the same person, created redirects/dabs where necessary, etc. (although I may have missed a couple, and more will probably show up)
    • I am in the process of checking all the red links to try to see if any of them show up in Searches as similar names (example with/without middle names). So far I've only done Alabama, this will take a bit of time and isn't that much fun, so I probably will do them slowly.
  • For Category:Miss America delegates
    • As of now, all of them are linked to a state pageant or I've removed them (expect for a Miss Dallas)
    • I have not yet tagged the talk pages for all the articles with the project template, but will do this either soon or after I finish searching for the red links.
    • I have added this category to Category:Beauty pageant contestants and have removed any articles from it so they are not in both the parent and the child category.

If you see something that I've missed, or something that my skills would be helpful with, please feel free to let me know. --After Midnight 0001 04:15, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for keeping me up to date! I have started adding info to the State articles... I notice a couple aren't completed (probably you couldn't find the info?)... the best source is probably Pageant Almanac's listings of all winners.
Everything else sounds great, if you get bored or want a new challenge, my latest project has been adding the Template:Pageant titleholder bio infobox to articles (see Katee Stearns as an example of how it works). I have been using AWB to help me (although this isn't necessarily the best infobox for all situations so it takes a bit of thinking and of course being able to find information). I have started with Category:Miss USA delegates so you might like to do that with the Miss America delgates... -- PageantUpdatertalk | contribs | esperanza 20:50, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pageant Almanac

Good to see you using Pageant Almanac -- just a warning that they seem to include an excessive number of middles names, many of which need to be got rid of ! I'm sure you've probably noticed that already... but I'll keep checking your edits and take out any I notice (as we have been doing). -- PageantUpdatertalk | contribs | esperanza 05:16, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Amazing amazing job

I bow down to you! I can't believe how much work you've been putting in lately, its amazing! And thanks for fixing the Miss USA 2006 delegates I haven't had time to update yet... I keep meaning to do it but the job was fairly daunting so I really appreciate it :) (I'm going to go back and add some stuff about previous pageants they had competed in, because they were written pretty quickly and before I developed a real style for that sort of article...) Anyway big thanks! -- PageantUpdatertalk | contribs | esperanza 02:18, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My pleasure; happy to help. As always, feel free to update anything I may have missed, or throw any suggestions my way. --After Midnight 0001 02:33, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tables

Hi. I was starting to look at the Miss USA state pageant articles and was thinking about adding tables on them to mirror what we have in the Miss America state pageant articles. Miss America state articles have columns for 1) Year, 2) Name, 3) Hometown, 4) Local Title, 5) Placement at Miss America, 6) Special scholarships at Miss America, and 7) Notes. For Miss USA state articles, I would picture only 5 columns: 1) Year, 2) Name, 3) Placement at Miss America, 4) Special awards at Miss USA and 5) Notes, since I don't think that hometown and local title information is particularly available. I've gone ahead and done this at Miss California USA, but haven't done any of the others yet, and won't until I get your feedback. Please let me know what you think, or if you hate it, just revert me, please. --After Midnight 0001 05:33, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Funny you said this because I was just thinking of doing the same thing! It all looks great, although I think it would be good to include hometowns... all hometowns for those 2000-2006 are available on my website (start on this page then use the arrows to move forward) and hometowns for all delegates are available on state websites for WY, CO, SD, MN, TX... and dating back to the nineties for NC, SC, LA. Am going to finish watching the tennis then will come back to you! -- PageantUpdatertalk | contribs | esperanza 06:32, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
One final thing... what would you think about adding a section for previous pageant experience? It would only work dating back to 2000ish but using abbreviations to detail previous Miss USA state pageants they'd competed in. For example, Candice Sanders, Miss California USA 2003 was first runner-up at Miss Tennessee USA 2001-2. I have all the relevant info on my website so it would be relatively easy to add in. Whether it's encyclopaedic enough? Well, I welcome your comments :) -- PageantUpdatertalk | contribs | esperanza 06:46, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ooops, link is: http://www.freewebs.com/pageantupdate/photoarchives/miss/2000/fashion.htm -- PageantUpdatertalk | contribs | esperanza 19:11, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I'll add a column for Hometown when I get back online later today or tomorrow. I'm not sure about having another column for the previous experience, especially if we don't have it for more than a few years back. I've made the Notes column pretty wide, what do you think of putting it over there with the crossovers and other notes? Also, FYI, the external link you gave me isn't working, can you please check it? --After Midnight 0001 11:44, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I see you're back on... if you take a look at Miss Alabama USA, Alaska and Arizona you'll see I've started the process! I've also added a column for age which I think is quite an interesting comparison. Ages for the girls 2000-6 are available at the ext link I gave you, and for the 2007 girls on their individual articles. This page has all the hometowns and ages of the Miss USA winners... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by PageantUpdater (talkcontribs) 01:10, 26 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]
Yes, I noticed the age with the hometown on California. I hadn't looked at the other states, yet; I'll check them out now.
