Song |
"On the Hotline" is a R&B single by American quartet Pretty Ricky. It is the first single to be released off their sophomore album Late Night Special. The single was released in November 2006 where it premired on BET's Access Granted Wednesday November 8 2006. The next day the group came to BET's 106 & Park with sleeping robes promoting their album with it labeled on the back of their clothing. The song samples Salt-N-Pepa's "Let's Talk About Sex". It debuted on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 at number 97 on Thursday December 28 2006.[1] It has also charted on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and currently has peaked at number 10. In its fifth week on the Billboard Hot 100, the song jumped 60 spots from 72 to 12 in the same week as the release of Late Night Special, which debuted at number one on the album chart.[2]
Song information
"On The Hotline" is a song about a conversation on the phone. In the song they sing that they are on the phone at 5 a.m. having "phone sex". In the chorus they sing Salt-N-Pepa's "Let's Talk About Sex" with some lyrics other than the original. Like all other Prety Ricky singles, there is an explicit album version, and a radio-friendly version. The song's rather infectious beat is a very clever combination of samples taken from the Isley Brother's "Between The Sheets", Grandmaster Flash's "The Message" and Newcleus' "Jam On It".
