Tremors: The Series was released in 2003 by the Sci-Fi Channel. It is a spin-off of Tremors and was produced at the same time as Tremors 4: The Legend Begins. Though Sci-Fi's highest-rated program at the time, it failed to hit the demographic that Sci-Fi wanted and was cancelled after one season of 13 episodes. The reason for this is often cited by fans to be the fact that the show was in direct competition with Earthsea, which was also in production at the time. It is reasoned that due to Sci-Fi's focusing of funds and hype toward Earthsea doomed the show to rely on low production values and less viewer recognition.

The series has yet to be released on DVD, however all 13 episodes have been released on the iTunes Store and are available for $1.99 each or $24.99 for the entire series.

Controversy of Tremors and Farscape and News Media

Many SFC viewers were upset about the sudden cancellation in September 2002 of Farscape. The SFC tried to tout Tremors: The Series as a Farscape replacement, which failed to work. In January 2003, at the TV News Press Tour in Los Angeles where TV networks would be showing off their new mid-season TV shows, many TV critics wanted to ask SFC President Bonnie Hammer about her decision to cancel Farscape. According to press sources of many nation's TV critics that attended the event, she kept ducking the issue with one critic or another saying she was there to promote the upcoming series Tremors.

When Bonnie Hammer was showing clips of the upcoming Tremors series, one newspaper TV critic asked her about her decision to cancel Farscape. Bonnie Hammer's answer went something like this: "I would be delighted to talk with you after this, however this will be taking up too much time with our Tremors: The Series panel. If you wait after this I will discuss with you in private about Farscape cancellation...." At which point, almost all the TV critics, who on the second day of the tour were already being denied or ignored about their questions/requests on Farscape screamed almost in union, "NO, we want answers NOW!!!" A visibly shaken Hammer was apparently stunned by the many nation's TV news critics/reviewers action who were not interested in her upcoming Tremors: The Series and only in her decision of Farscape cancellation.
