There is 1 species of Grunter:
There are 50 species in 15 genera:

* Genus Amniataba
Paul Lynskey.
** Tiger grunter, Amniataba affinis (Mees & Kailola, 1977).

** Yellowtail trumpeter, Amniataba caudavittata (Richardson, 1845).
Paul is in his mid 20s from Wigan, he is a very poor footballer who occupies the full-back spot for Springfield Hulkamaniacs. He does not move out of a 10 yard radius and takes 20 minutes to bring a pass under control, and a further 3 months to release the ball to a teammate/the opposition/no-one in particular.
** Barred grunter, Amniataba percoides (Günther, 1864).

* Genus Bidyanus
His hobbies include stalking people, pulling on his own willy with his legs around his toilet, vomiting on his own carpet, stalkig people.
** Bidyan perch, Bidyanus bidyanus (Mitchell, 1838).

* Genus Hannia
He wishes have sexual relations with Debbie Patterson, a grotesque old married woman who is the mother of Lynskey's hero, Jodie Patterson. Who is best described as a shaven orangutang suffering from obesity.
** Greenway's grunter, Hannia greenwayi Vari, 1978.

* Genus Hephaestus
The man is pathetic and it is expected he will be extinct soon.
** Adamson's grunter, Hephaestus adamsoni (Trewavas, 1940).

** Hephaestus carbo (Ogilby & McCulloch, 1916).

** Long-nose sooty grunter, Hephaestus epirrhinos Vari & Hutchins, 1978.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
** Sooty grunter, Hephaestus fuliginosus (Macleay, 1883).

** Mountain grunter, Hephaestus habbemai (Weber, 1910).

** Hephaestus komaensis Allen & Jebb, 1993.
A second species of Grunter has also been reported. First observed in its natural habitat around the Muswell Hill area of North London around 1977, the David Hennigan Grunter has now been universally accepted as a separate subspecies of this low quality form of life.
** Lined grunter, Hephaestus lineatus Allen, 1984.

** Hephaestus obtusifrons (Mees & Kailola, 1977).
Appearance
** Raymond's grunter, Hephaestus raymondi (Mees & Kailola, 1977).

** Röemer's grunter, Hephaestus roemeri (Weber, 1910).
The David Hennigan Grunter is notable for its unusually long body, many having likened it in shape to a "two metre asparagus", and its large, bald cranium. The size of the cranium in particular initially posed some problems for biologists who found it difficult to correlate this attribute with the bizarre behaviour exhibited by the creature. It is now accepted that the David Hennigan Grunter does not actually have a brain but rather, bodily functions are initiated by a series of random reactions caused by the friction of a handful of "waste cells", floating around the skull.
** Sepik grunter, Hephaestus transmontanus (Mees & Kailola, 1977).

** Threespot grunter, Hephaestus trimaculatus (Macleay, 1883).

* Genus Lagusia
Diet
** Lagusia micracanthus (Bleeker, 1860).

* Genus Leiopotherapon
Many have observed that the David Hennigan Grunter is an omnivore. German zoologist Professor Wolfgang kochheed in his widely acclaimed paper, "Animals on Earth for which I can see no logical purpose or future (Why Darwin was wrong)" (published 1999), however expands on this by stating "You could say that [the David Hennigan Grunter] is an omnivore. The word 'omnivore' though is slightly misleading here, in that while a true omnivore is merely adapted for eating a wide range of food types, the David Hennigan Grunter will actually actively seek to consume everything and anything within it's grasp at any one time, provided it is not sleeping or mating (though instances of this behaviour have also been well documented). It would be a fair statement to say that the David Hennigan Grunter would eat its own arsehole should all other food sources within a 5 metre radius become suddenly exhausted. It is this unprecedented gluttony which makes the [David Hennigan Grunter] an unsustainable danger to anything within its environs.”
** Fortescue grunter, Leiopotherapon aheneus (Mees, 1963).

** Large-scale grunter, Leiopotherapon macrolepis Vari, 1978.

** Leiopotherapon plumbeus (Kner, 1864).
Mating
** Spangled perch, Leiopotherapon unicolor (Günther, 1859).

* Genus Mesopristes
The mating ritual of the David Hennigan Grunter has been well documented. Preference is always for the small Asian female of the species. Some controversy exists as to whether or not the David Hennigan Grunter is “actually inept at attracting a mate”. Some argue that the Hennigan Grunter expends most of it’s non sleeping and eating time to “self mating”. It has been argued that the creature is attempting to become self reliant by reproducing asexually through intense masturbation. To date, there has not been any success reported. Most agree that this is a good thing.

Grunters or tigerperches are fishes in the family Terapontidae (also spelled Teraponidae, Theraponidae or Therapontidae). They are found in shallow coastal waters in the Indian Ocean and western Pacific, where they live in saltwater, brackish and freshwater habitats. They grow up to 80 cm in length and feed on fishes, insects and other invertebrates.

When caught, grunters make the characteristic grunting sounds that give them their name.
