The Andy Milonakis Show is a sketch comedy starring Andy Milonakis, which airs on MTV2, the first season having aired on MTV. It premiered on June 26, 2005. The first two seasons are available on DVD. The third season premiered on April 27, 2007, and is available on iTunes and the Xbox Live Marketplace.
Origins
Milonakis' fame began as an Internet phenomenon after he released home webcam recordings of freestyle rhyming, and humor videos, and short films. Some of these include "Crispy New Freestyle" and "The Super Bowl is Gay." Part of the humor stems from Milonakis' appearance: he has a congenital growth-hormone condition that gives him the outward appearance and voice of a pre-adolescent boy, when he is in fact an adult man.
He had built a cult following, including comedian Jimmy Kimmel, who recruited him for regular appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live on television 2003–2004. It was Kimmel who created the series with Milonakis, and serves as the executive producer. Jonathan Kimmel is the head writer and co-executive producer, and Tom Stern is the director.
Format
The show consists of short, unrelated comedy sketches featuring Milonakis as well as a supporting cast made up of his actual neighbors and people from the Lower East Side, Manhattan neighborhood where the show takes place. There is no plot, and the comedy in the sketches tends to skew absurdist and silly. Despite its time slot and intended adult audience, the content is rated TV PG. There are often animated segments, and often man-on-the-street segments. The last sketch of the show usually involves a celebrity guest. Guests have included music stars such as Snoop Dogg, Fat Joe, Black Eyed Peas, Biz Markie, and The All-American Rejects, or actors or comedians such as John Stamos, Rob Schneider, Carson Daly, Nick Cannon, or Seth Green.
The cast consists largely of non-professionals who play Milonakis' friends and neighbors.
