This article is about minor Dark wizards from the Harry Potter series. See Lord Voldemort and Death Eater for further selections.

Avery

Template:HP character

Avery was a Death Eater during Voldemort's first reign of terror, but avoided being brought to justice by saying he was acting under the Imperius Curse. After he rose again, Voldemort punished Avery with the Cruciatus Curse for his disloyalty.

Regulus Black

Template:HP character

Regulus Black is the younger brother of Sirius Black. The Black family was a family of dark wizards. According to Sirius Black, his parents believed that to be Black made you practically royal and shared many of the Death Eaters' ideas about blood purity. Unlike his older brother Sirius, Regulus had a similar mentality to them, and for that reason it seems he was the favourite son of their mother.

When Lord Voldemort rose to power, Regulus joined him and his parents thought he was a little hero for becoming a Death Eater. When he started to realize what was expected of him as a Death Eater, he began to panic and wanted to quit, but being a Death Eater is a lifelong service on pain of death. According to sources, Regulus was killed on Voldemort's orders, or very possibly by Voldemort himself.

Near the end of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, a message is signed with the initials R.A.B., and some have interpreted it to mean Regulus A. Black; this was more or less confirmed by the author in an interview. (The "A." is not given by Rowling but could stand for "Alphard," uncle to Regulus and Sirius.) This would indicate that the locket Horcrux was stolen by Regulus and possibly destroyed. Page 116 of The Order of the Phoenix mentions a similar locket stashed at 12 Grimmauld Place, the Black household.

Antonin Dolohov

Template:HP character Antonin Dolohov was one of the five Death Eaters who murdered Gideon and Fabian Prewett, who were Molly Weasley's brothers, and who tortured many Muggles and opponents of Voldemort during the first war. Dolohov was caught shortly after Igor Karkaroff, who named him during his own trial. He was sent to Azkaban, but escaped during the mass breakout of January 1996. He fought in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries and is currently in Azkaban prison. During the battle, he placed a dangerous curse--a jet of purple light--on Hermione Granger with a slashing, zigzag motion that resulted in her becoming unconscious and suffering from severe internal injury.

Fenrir Greyback

Template:HP character

Fenrir Greyback is the most vicious werewolf alive. It was he who bit Remus Lupin and turned him into a werewolf (as Lupin's father had offended him). He has a policy of biting children so he can raise them to hate mankind. Fenrir is also a cannibal, as he enjoys eating human flesh when he isn't in his transformed werewolf state. He is on Voldemort's side in the Second War.

Moreover at the end of the book, he had bitten Bill Weasley (when he had not transformed, so Bill will not turn into a werewolf). He left Bill barely recognisable, and Lupin noted that it was an extraordinary case and "they might notice wolfish characteristics in him".

Fenrir Greyback seems to be named for the mythical wolf Fenrir, who in Norse mythology is fabled to bring about the destruction of the world and all the gods.

Grindelwald

Template:HP character

Grindelwald was a Dark wizard before Lord Voldemort and his only mention is on Albus Dumbledore's Chocolate Frog card which notes that Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald in 1945.

It has been speculated that, since 1945 saw the end of World War II, there may be a connection between Grindelwald and Adolf Hitler. Some fanfiction authors try to expand Grindelwald's character, and to tie him in with the present-day characters. It is unclear whether Grindelwald will be significant in any way in the upcoming book, but the current presiding wisdom is that he is most likely long dead and/or destroyed.

Jugson

Template:HP character Jugson fought in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries and is currently in Azkaban Prison.

Rodolphus and Rabastan Lestrange

Template:HP character Rodolphus and Rabastan Lestrange were (and probably still are) a pair of Death Eaters. Rodolphus and Rabastan Lestrange are brothers and Rodolphus is married to Bellatrix Lestrange. Alongside Bellatrix and Barty Crouch Jr., the two brothers aided in the torture of Frank and Alice Longbottom driving both of them into insanity.

All three Lestranges were formerly imprisoned in Azkaban until their escape, along with several other death eaters. At the end of the fifth book Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Bellatrix Lestrange is responsible for the death of Sirius Black in the Battle in the Department of Mysteries; during a duel, she shot him into a veil of darkness.

Near the end of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, a message signed R.A.B. is found. Some have interpreted these initials as Rodolphus and Bellatrix.

Walden Macnair

Template:HP character

Walden Macnair is a Death Eater who also has a job within the Ministry of Magic as an executioner for the Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures, and was assigned with the task of executing Buckbeak in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. He also served as one of Lord Voldemort's envoys to the giants, and it seems he helped to persuade them to join forces with the Death Eaters. He also fought in the battle in the Department of Mysteries in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Macnair was played by British actor Peter Best in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Macnair's name is never mentioned in the film and he's listed in the credits as "The Executioner."

Mulciber

Template:HP character Mulciber fought in the battle in the Department of Mysteries and is currently in Azkaban. He was originally captured before Igor Karkaroff came to trial, but escaped in the mass breakout of January 1996. He is noted as a specialist in the Imperius Curse.

Nott

Template:HP character

Nott is the father of Theodore Nott, a Slytherin student at Hogwarts. Rowling mentioned on her website that he is a widower. Nott was a Death Eater and after Lord Voldemort's fall, he wormed his way out of Azkaban, but joined him when he rose again in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Nott was involved in the battle in the Department of Mysteries in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and was injured. After being stunned by Hermione Granger, Lucius Malfoy ordered the rest of the Death Eaters to leave him there.

Augustus Rookwood

Template:HP character

Augustus Rookwood was a spy in the Ministry of Magic during Voldemort's first rise to power, worked for the Department of Mysteries but had agents throughout the entire Ministry, not all of whom knowing who they were really working for. (For example, Rookwood was an old friend of Ludo Bagman's father, and Bagman passed him information, apparently quite innocently.) Igor Karkaroff named Rookwood during his own trial, and Rookwood was sent to Azkaban but escaped in the mass breakout of January 1996. Rookwood fought in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries.

The character is described as having a pockmarked face in one of Harry's visions. He is currently in Azkaban prison.

Evan Rosier

Template:HP character

Evan Rosier was killed by Aurors, shortly after Igor Karkaroff's capture, while resisting arrest, taking a big chunk out of Mad-Eye Moody's nose in the process.

Evan is Greek and means "of noble birth," appropriate for a typical Death Eater with pure-blood prejudices. Rosier is the name of a fallen angel (formerly holding the rank of Dominion in the angelic hierarchy). This demon may appear as either a man or a woman, and is a kind of patron devil of tainted love and seduction, especially noted for assuming a human form of great physical beauty, and tempts humans to fall in love, so that they will therefore sin or act foolish.

Travers

Template:HP character

Travers was a Death Eater, who, according to Karkaroff, killed the McKinnons.

Wilkes

Template:HP character

Wilkes was a Death Eater killed by Aurors.
