Hey There,

I'm surprised to see that you have taken an interest in the uninteresting user page of an insignificant person. Anyway, since you have taken the trouble to traverse cyberspace mazes in order to get here, I guess I better fill you up.

On second thought, no. You see, it's like this: I don't like to blurt out exactly who I am to strangers(which you probably are, like it or not). I will tell you my name, which is Shish Basu Palit. I will also tell you my nickname, which is Molu. But you won't find me if you google with either of these, for that you need to know my cyberspace pseudonym, which happens to be loom91. I spend most of my cyberspace time on bookcrossing, please check out my page at loom91's Bookcrossing bookshelf.

Since my name, contributions and location (which is Kolkata, West Bengal, India by the way) are the only things I am gonna tell you till we know each other better, I better make your visit worthwhile by giving an academic commentary on the etymology of my varied names. Linguistics forever!

On names

Krishna is rumored to answer to 108 different names, I'm satisfied with only 3. Everyone should be satisfied with 3, those who have more are just showing off. One reason you shouldn't have more than 3: you won't have enough time to properly appreciate all of them. But enough talk, let's start with my official name, Shish Basu Palit.

Shish is a rather uncommon name. It sort of stands out. Now that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Hitler stands out as well as Einstein. It's all about how you use your name. Shish is a simplified form of the Sanskrit (used also in Bangla/বাংলা) word Shirsha, which usually means the top or the peak, that which is above all. You can see, it's an ambitious name. The construction is Shri dhatu + as protaye. Basu is the surname of my father while Palit is the surname of my mother.

Molu is a nickname that came from the animated series Molu. I am told that when I was very young (very young) I used to get excited by that cartoon. Most of the people who know me well call me by that name.

Loom91 is actually a derivation of molu. When spelled in Bangla, Molu takes two charecters excluding diacritic signs. When the order is reversed (in Bangla, not in English), the resulting two letter word is loom. Why the 91? Now that I won't tell you till I know you well (see above). Anyway, no sane person is still reading at this point, so I wave a goodbye to the non-existent/crazy reader.
