The Chipewyan are a Canadian aboriginal people native to the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and the northern parts of the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. They are among those first nations who call themselves Dene ("people").

The Chipewyan language is part of the Athabaskan (Athapascan) linguistic group. Despite a superficial similarity, there is no connection to the Chippewa or Ojibwa.
