Plot Outline
Underworld is a movie about vampires and werewolves (the latter are called "Lycans" in the film as an abbreviation of lycanthrope).
A departure from most stories of these kinds of creatures, Vampires and Lycans are irrevocably infected with similar, but conflicting, strains of a mutated disease.
Selene (Kate Beckinsale) is a Vampire “Death Dealer” or Lycan hunter. She finds herself attracted to Michael (Scott Speedman), a newly bitten Lycan. Michael is important to Lucian (Michael Sheen). Lucian, the leader of the scattered and out numbered Lycans, believes Michael is descendant from the original virus carrier, and the key to combining the two races. Viktor (Bill Nighy) the eldest Vampire, fears a intermixing of the races so mutch he killed his own daughter to prevent it, after she married Lucien. Viktor is woken by Selene to deal with the threat of a vampire in league with the Lycans. Kraven (Shane Brolly) was appointed by Viktor to maintain his estate while he slept. Kraven wants to usurp the leadership of the elders and claim reign of the vampires himself. He strikes a deal with Lucian to achieve this.
