Joe Seliga (1911–2005) was a master builder of exquisite wood-and-canvas canoes in Ely, Minnesota.
Seliga was inspired by the elegant Morris canoes of Maine, built from 1887 to 1920. Seliga was an inspiration and model for other canoe builders[citation needed] from before World War II until his death at the age of 94, when he was still building canoes. Maine canoe builder and author Jerry Stelmok wrote a book on Seliga's life and career, The Art of the Canoe with Joe Seliga (ISBN 0760312419).
