Kyouryuu Sentai Zyuranger (恐竜戦隊ジュウレンジャー, Kyōryū Sentai Jūrenjā), translated into English as Dinosaur Squadron Zyuranger[1] is a Japanese tokusatsu television series, the 16th entry in the long-running Super Sentai franchise of superhero programmes. Produced by Toei Company Ltd. and Bandai, it aired on TV Asahi from February 21, 1992 to February 12, 1993, with a total of 50 episodes. Its footage was used in the first season of the American series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
Plot
- "From hundreds of millions of years ago, in the age of the dinosaurs, five warriors revive in the present time!"
170,000,000 years ago, five ancient human tribes, with the protection of the Guardian Beasts, coexisted peacefully with the dinosaurs. This ended when an evil witch named Bandora started a war on the dinosaurs because of the death of her son Kai. Bandora decided that the only way Kai's death could be avenged was if she sold her soul to Great Satan, an evil, almost ice-like head creature who had immense power and who in the later series could be summoned to help Bandora. In the end, the five tribes were ruined and the dinosaurs became extinct. The Guardian Beasts sealed Bandora and her minions on the planet Nemesis before going into hibernation. In 1992, Nemesis returned to near Earth's orbit. Two Japanese astronauts exploring the planet accidentally released her and her minions from their prison. With Bandora free, her arch-enemy, the wizard Barza retreated to his underground lair 2,000 metres below the apartment building where he worked as a front. There, he revived the five warriors he had been guarding, who had been in suspended animation to be awakened when they were needed. These five were each a member of the ancient human tribes, who co-existed with the dinosaurs. With the aid of the Guardian Beasts, the Zyurangers fought Bandora and her Dora Monsters. Later in the series, after the five have become used to modern times, the leader's elder brother comes forth with tales of jealousy and vengeance.
Characters
Zyurangers

The Zyurangers were the six greatest warriors of the five ancient tribes. Barza called them the six Holy Warriors of Justice. They went into suspended animation to be ready in the event Bandora escaped her prison. They are now in Heaven with Barza and their Guardian Beasts.
- Yamato Tribe Prince Geki (ゲキ) / TyrannoRanger (ティラノレンジャー, Tiranorenjā) / Armed Tyranno (アームドティラノ, Āmudo Tirano): The Warrior of Justice (正義の戦士, Seigi no Senshi). 24 years old. It is revealed that he was really adopted by the Yamato King. After the death of his big brother Burai, the Dragon Armor is given to Geki. When TyrannoRanger wears the Dragon Armor, he is called Armed Tyranno, and can generate his power three to five times higher than usual. Passionate leader with a strong sense of justice, even though had very humorous moments. His Guardian Beast is Tyrannosaurus, and after Burai died, Dragon Caesar became his second.
- Legendary Weapons: Ryuugekiken (Dragon Attack Sword) & Zyusouken (see below).
- Attacks: Jump Cut, Straight Cut, V Crash.
- Shama Tribe Knight Goushi (ゴウシ) / MammothRanger (マンモスレンジャー, Manmosurenjā): The Warrior of Wisdom (智慧の戦士, Chie no Senshi). 27 years old subleader. He was the serious member although was also caring and good-hearted. He had an older sister named Otome, whose death by Bandora made him vow to avenge her. He is the only member who can read their ancient writing. His Guardian Beast is ZyuMammoth.
- Legendary Weapon: Mothbreaker.
- Attacks: Power Crush, Mothbreaker Change Attack.
- Etofu Tribe Knight Dan (ダン) / TriceraRanger (トリケラレンジャー, Torikerarenjā): The Warrior of Courage (勇気の戦士, Yūki no Senshi). 19 years old. Young warrior with much lack of discipline. Liked to help troubled people but sometimes got carried away. He was impressed by modern-day technology and worked part-time to buy a computer. He was something of a flirt. His Guardian Beast is Triceratops.
- Legendary Weapon: Triceralance.
- Attacks: Jump Attack, Triceralance Typhoon.
- Daimu Tribe Knight Boi (ボーイ) / TigerRanger (タイガーレンジャー, Taigārenjā): The Warrior of Hope (希望の戦士, Kibō no Senshi). He was the youngest of the team, 15 years old. The most agile member, Boi was gifted with stealth abilities. Bad at cooking. Hates carrots. His Guardian Beast is SaberTiger.
- Legendary Weapons: Saber Daggers
- Attacks: Pinpoint Thrust, Saber Daggers Lightning Shoot.
- Reshiya Tribe Princess Mei (メイ) / PteraRanger (プテラレンジャー, Puterarenjā): The Warrior of Love (愛の戦士, Ai no Senshi). She was the only female member of the team. 17 years old. Although being young, she has a very strong sense of responsibility. Lover of nature and children. Liked fashion and changed her hairstyle very often. Her Guardian Beast is Pteranodon.
- Legendary Weapon: Ptera Arrow
- Attacks: Turn Off Attack, Rolling Arrows.
- Yamato Tribe Prince Burai (ブライ) / DragonRanger (ドラゴンレンジャー, Doragonrenjā): The Warrior of Power (力の戦士, Chikara no Senshi). Another warrior who was in suspended animation in a cave outside of town. Eldest member of the team, 32 years old, and the strongest out of all the Zyuranger. He was resurrected by Gnome's grandson and attacked the Zyurangers. Geki soon learned that Burai was his older brother, the son of the Black Knight. Burai was about 8 years old when Geki was born. Their father, the Black Knight, was a prideful man who showed utter disrespect to his monarch, Yamato King. The childless King, rather than executing him, penalized the Knight with his younger son, Geki, adopting the boy as his heir. The Black Knight was unable to come to terms with this loss and led a rebellion to take back Geki only to be killed in a duel by the Yamato King. Burai, witnessing his father's death, swore revenge by stealing the Yamato Tribe’s Dragon Armor treasure and vowed to kill his younger brother. Burai eventually made peace with Geki and joined the team, helping every once in awhile. It turned out that Burai's life was limited; his sleep chamber had caved in and crushed him, but the Dinosaur Gods had brought him back to life because his Guardian Beast Dragon Caesar would be needed by the Zyuranger (strangely, it was Clotho who gave Burai his Zyusouken). When he eventually died, he passed to Geki his Zyusouken (to summon Dragon Caesar) and the Dragon Armor. In the finale, Burai's spirit appeared before the Zyurangers to tell them that the Guardian Beasts were in Bandora's Magic Realm.
- Legendary Weapon: Zyusouken (Jūsōken, Beast Play Sword). The Zyusouken can be used by Burai to command and control Dragon Caesar. Burai could also use it to teleport himself from the Lapseless Room to where ever a battle took place.
- Attacks: Burai could cross his Zyusouken and Geki's Ryuugekiken or Hellfriede for an energy blast. And as seen in episode 27, Burai can also fire a beam from the blade on the Zyusouken. Four songs have been played on it.
- Due to prolonging his life, Burai would appear either seldomly during episodes (after episode 22) or not appear at all. He takes part in the battles in: Episode 23-25, 27, 29, 31, 34, 37-42.
- Episodes 31, 34, 41-42 show him particiating the most (whereas his main appearances just have him summoning Dragon Caeser).
- While not involed in battles, he appears in Geki's dream in episode 32, and appeared in spirit before the Zyurangers in episode 49.
Arsenal
- Dino Buckler (ダイノバックラー, Dainobakkurā): Each Ranger wears a Dino Buckler which is a detachable golden buckle placed on each Zyuranger's waistband. The Dino Buckler is two-sided: the folded grip-side is out before the Zyurangers transformation, and the side showing the coin on which the figure of his/her own Guardian Beast is carved after. The Zyuranger transform by removing the Buckler from the belt and shouting "Dino Buckler!". Before the transformation, the Dino Buckler can be used in battle as a knuckle cover. The coin is the vital source of Zyurangers power; it stores Gaiatron energy, a mysterious and perpetual power-source derived from mother nature. With its internal energy, the coin also has the power to heal a wounded person. While inside their Guardian Beasts, the Zyurangers can turn their coins into Dinocrystals which help in the transformation process of Daizyujin or Gouryuujin. Burai's Dino Buckler is gold-colored instead of silver like the others.
- Howling Cannon (ハウリングキャノン, Hauringu Kyanon): When the five Legendary Weapons are combined, the Howling Cannon, a powerful bazooka, is formed. The Howling Cannon is often used to finish off the human-sized Dora Monsters.
- Dragon Armor (ドラゴンアーマー, Doragon Āmā): Golden collar worn by Dragon Ranger, also given to Geki upon Burai's death. It was the treasure of the Yamato Kingdom. Can enhance ones abilities up to forty times when worn, and can repel any attack by any oppenent, even King Brachion's.
- Ranger Slinger (レンジャースリンガー, Renjā Suringā): Each Thunder Slinger can be combined with the Ranger Gun to form a mightier blaster called Ranger Slinger. When the Zyurangers shoot their Ranger Slinger simultaneously to the target, the combined attack is the Ranger Slinger Final Shot, which brings critical damage to enemies, even to giant-sized Dora Monsters.
- RangerStick (レンジャースティック, Renjā Sutikku): Other than being used individually, the RangerSticks are used together in the Babel Attack (バベルアタック, Baberu Atakku). The five Zyurangers form a tower, bring the tips of each RangerStick toward the center, and then shoot the combined, powerful shock-wave.
- Ranger Gun (レンジャーガン, Renjā Gan): Fires strong Gaiatron lasers.
- Ranger Sword (レンジャーソード, Renjā Sōdō): Powered with the super-frequency energy of Gaiatron.
- Thunder Slinger (サンダースリンガー, Sandā Suringā): Obtained in #29, the Thunder Slinger, is a slinger-shaped blaster, and is a common weapon for the Rangers. By pulling and releasing the energy shaft in the back of Thunder Slinger, the Zyurangers can shoot the energy arrows from the upper muzzle and smash enemies. They can also shoot paralysing beams from two lower muzzles.
- Dinosaur Eggs (恐竜の卵, Kyōryū no Tamago): After the war ended, heads of the five ancient tribes put a pair of dinosaur eggs in a chest and sent it off to sea, hoping for a safer place and time for dinosaurs. The chest drifted over to Daros Island, where Apelo tribes reside; the Guardian Beasts appeared to Apelos and entrusted them to protect the eggs until the Zyurangers returned to this world and receive them. After so many attempts by Bandora to use for her own evil deeds, the Zyurangers finally claimed the eggs and sent them to King Brachion to incubate the eggs inside his body. In a book called "Dino Apocalypse", it tells that the eggs are the last pair of dinosaurs on Earth, and if they were destroyed, the dinosaurs would be become extinct from this world and Daizyujin will lose his major power source and might even die as well. After Dora Talos' destruction, the eggs finally hatch into two Tyrannosaurus hatchlings and are now in the care of dinosaur-lover Satoshi and his friends.
Vehicles
- Zaurer Machines: The Zyurangers own three special motorcycles. The Zaurer Machines are:
- Roadzaurer 1: Geki/TyrannoRanger's motorcycle. It is equipped with a powerful machinegun in front, and can run up to 320km/h.
- Sidezaurer 2: Goushi/MammothRanger's motorcycle, with a sidecar for Boi/TigerRanger. It is equipped with two mini-cannon in front, and can run up to 280km/h.
- Sidezaurer 3: Dan/TriceraRanger's motorcycle, with a sidecar for Mei/PteraRanger. It is equipped with two mighty machineguns in front, and can run up to 300km/h.
Guardian Beasts
The Guardian Beasts (守護獣, Shugojū) are avatars of the Dinosaur Gods, who were all original one entity; as God. Even though the Guardian Beasts are shaped as such, they are not robots. They are the agents of the ancient gods which the Zyurangers and their tribes worship. Therefore, each Guardian Beast has its own will and possesses a mysterious power which even the Zyurangers cannot fathom. The Guardian Beasts usually sometimes come when the command "Appear! Guardian Beast (name)!" is given. When they first get in their cockpits, the Rangers give out command "(name)Ranger! Guardian Beast (name)! Together!". The Guardian Beasts, when not in use, can sometimes speak to the Zyurangers in their spirit forms in the sky, as either the seven seperate Beasts, Daizyujin, Gouryuujin, or Ultimate Daizyujin. Now all seven of the Guardian Beasts are in Heaven with the Zyurangers and Barza.
- Ultimate Daizyujin (究極大獣神, Kyūkyoku Daijūjin, Ultimate Great Beast God): When Beast Emperor Daizyujin and King Tanker are combined from the command "Ultimate Combination!" (究極合体 Kyūkyoku Gattai), the colossal Ultimate Daizyujin is formed. Although it was the last to be introduced, it is the original form of God, and the mightiest form in all Guardian Beast combinations. Ultimate Daizyujin's finishing move is Grand Banisher, a massive barrage of energy. It has immense power, enough to defeat Great Satan in the finale.
- Beast Emperor Daizyujin (獣帝大獣神, Jūtei Daijūjin, Beast Emperor Great Beast God): Daizyujin and Dragon Caesar can combine to form the Beast Emperor Daizyujin by the command of "Beast Emperor Combination!" (獣帝合体 Jūtei Gattai). It attacks its enemies with a blast of mighty beams called the Kaizer Burst. Its finisher is Empire Attack, a massive ball of energy blazen with a "Z" on it. This form was infrequently by itself, due to the size of the costume, however, its usually only being seen when it combined with King Tanker to form Ultimate Daizyujin.
- Beast Tank DinoTanker (獣戦車ダイノタンカー, Jūsensha Dainotankā) / Daizyujin (大獣神, Daijūjin, Great Beast God): The combined form of the five primary Guardian Beasts from the command "Combine! Dino Misson!" (合体ダイノミッション Gattai Daino Misshon) for DinoTanker or "Invoke! Daizyujin!" (発動 大獣神 Hatsudō Daijūjin) for Daizyujin. Daizyujin has his own will as an agent of the Gods, and sometimes gives challenges or suggests the right directions for the Zyurangers to help their quest to be real heroes. He wields the Mammoth Shield, which can fire energy beams from its eyes and the Dinosaur Sword Godhorn (恐竜剣ゴッドホーン, Kyōryū-ken Godohōn), which he uses in his Super Legendary Lightning Cut (Chō Densetsu Raitoningu Giri) attack. He can flexibly change into the DinoTanker, which attacks enemies with its two powerful cannons the Beast Tank Cannons, or with laser blasts from the eyes of each Guardian Beast called the Beast Tank Storm. Daizyujin's power helped to power up GaoKing in Gaoranger vs. Super Sentai.
- Guardian Beast Tyrannosaurus (守護獣 ティラノザウルス, Shugojū Tiranozaurusu): First Guardian Beast to be awakened. Bigger and stronger than the other primary Guardian Beasts, it has finished several giant Dora Monsters with its Tyranno Sonic shockwave. It is also able to stand on its tail to deliver jump kicks to its enemy. Helped out in Gaoranger vs. Super Sentai. When Tyannosaurus is called upon, he comes from under the earth. Forms Daizyujin's head and body.
- Guardian Beast ZyuMammoth (守護獣 ジューマンモス, Shugojū JūManmosu): It can blow glacial gas called Mammoth Blizzard of -200°C from the trunk to freeze enemies. When ZyuMammoth is called upon, he comes from a glacial area. Forms Daizyujin's arms, back and shield, or DinoTanker's cannons and chest.
- Guardian Beast Triceratops (守護獣 トリケラトプス, Shugojū Torikeratopusu): Its two horns can be shot to capture the enemies with chains. It is also equipped with two Tricera Cannon on its back. When Triceratops is called upon, he comes from a desert area. Forms Daizyujin's left leg.
- Guardian Beast SaberTiger (守護獣 サーベルタイガー, Shugojū SāberuTaigā): Its running speed excels that of all the other Guardian Beasts. It also has two mighty laser gun called the Saber Gun on its tail. When SaberTiger is called upon, he comes from a jungle area. Forms Daizyujin's right leg.
- Guardian Beast Pteranodon (守護獣 プテラノドン, Shugojū Puteranodon): It is the only Guardian Beast with flying ability, and its flying speed can go as high as Mach 2.5. It emits Ptera Beams from its wings. When Pteranodon is called upon, she comes from a volcano. Forms Daizyujin's chest, or DinoTanker's topmost area.
- Guardian Beast Dragon Caesar (守護獣 ドラゴンシーザー, Shugojū Doragon Shīzā): Its superb combat ability matches that of Tyrannosaurus, who always came at the sound of the Zyusouken's summoning melody, coming up from under the sea. Dragon Caesar can also hold his own against even Grifforzer and Lamia-Scorpion. It has a strong drill on its tail, and its Dragon Hurley, a blast of missiles launched from the fingertips, is powerful enough to smash giant Dora Monsters. Dragon Caesar is shown emitting a pentagon-shaped force field from the lights on his chest in design sketches, but never did so in the show. He can combine with ZyuMammoth, Triceratops, and SaberTiger to form Gouryuujin. Because Dragon Caesar is controlled by the Zyusouken, DragonRanger hadly ever went into its cockpit, but during his final hour, Burai went into Dragon Caesar's cockpit for his very last fight. After Burai's death, Dragon Caesar became confused and very depressed, but he soon realized that despite Burai being gone, the other Zyurangers and Guardian Beasts still needed his help, and accepted Geki as his new master. Despite its name, Dragon Caesar's appearance is similar to that of Godzilla with samurai-like armor. Form's Gouryujin's chest and Dragon Antler as well as Beast Emperor Daizyujin's shoulder armor. Parts of him also form Ultimate Daizyujin's chest and tail.
- Gouryuujin (剛竜神, Gōryūjin, Strong Dragon God): The combined form of Dragon Caesar with ZyuMammoth, Triceratops, and SaberTiger that is created when the command "Combine! Dragon Misson!" (合体ドラゴンミッション Gattai Doragon Misshon) is given. It is armed with the Dragon Antler drill that is used for his Super Blast Dragon Thrust attack. Gouryuujin is somewhat larger and stronger than Daizyujin, although it appears to be somewhat slower. Its shape is somewhat resemblant of a dragoon. Gouryuujin can also shoot the fin on its head off as a laser, but that never works.
- Beast Knight God King Brachion (獣騎神 キングブラキオン, Jūkishin Kingu Burakion) / Super Beast Tank King Tanker (超獣戦車キングタンカー, Cho Jūsensha Kingu Tankā): The seventh Guardian Beast, which resembles a Brachiosaurus. King Brachion is a masterless Guardian Beast. He has his own will just as the other Guardian Beasts, although he does not require a pilot. When King Brachion is called upon, he comes out of a misty forest valley, which has some water in it. He first appeared to test Geki and Burai if they were worthy of the Thunder Slingers under his guard. After that, he came the Zyurangers' aid whenever Ultimate Daizyujin was needed when the command "Appear! Beast Knight God King Brachion!" is given by TyrannoRanger. When his two Tail Cannons are slid forward, King Brachion becomes King Tanker, carrying Tyrannosaurus, Dragon Caesar or any of the Guardian Beast combinations (only Daizyujin rode King Tanker in series). King Brachion can also shoot fireballs from his mouth. Later in the series, King Brachion is given the task of incubating the last two Dinosaur Eggs until they hatch, which made him a target by Bandora in the finale. Parts of him form a chest ornament and gauntlets for Ultimate Daizyujin.
Allies
- Mysterious Hermit Barza (不思議仙人バーザ, Fushigi Sennin Bāza): Sealed away along Bandora. He was the immortal white wizard who looked after the Zyurangers during their long sleep. He worked as an apartment manager in the building above their resting place, the Sakura Mansion. Now he is in Heaven with the Zyurangers and the Guardian Beasts.
- Spirit of Life Clotho (命の精霊クロト, Inochi no Seirei Kuroto): When the Zyurangers went into suspended animation, Burai followed them in his own chamber. However, the Zyurangers had Barza to look after them while Burai had no one. This proved tragic as an earthquake caused the cave where Burai was sleeping to collapse, crushing the helpless Burai to death. Daizyujin asked Clotho to restore Burai's life, because the Zyurangers would need his Dragon Caesar. However, his life force was limited. Soon after Burai was revived, and after he betrayed Bandora, Clotho took him to the Lapseless Room and gave him the Zyusouken. Clotho told him he had about 30 hours left, and left him with a green candle that would represent his remaining life force. The Lapseless Room is a chamber were time stood still, and every time Burai went out to aid his brother a portion of the candle would melt away.
- Gnome (ノーム, Nōmu): The King of the Elves. He was an old friend of Barza, and the holder of Burai's key. He hoped that Burai would simply die inside the cave so that he would not be unleashed upon the world.
- Ryota: Gnome's grandson. 170 million years ago, Burai saved him from a rock that threatened to crush him. In the present day, he took Gnome's key, and unsealed Burai, against his grandfather's wishes.
- Prince Euro (ヨーロ公, Yōro Kō): Young prince of the Apelo tribe.
- Daisy & Clockle (デイジー&クロックル, Deijī to Kurokkuru): Prince Euro's two assistants.
Ancient Tribes
The five tribes where the six Zyurangers come from. They each worshipped one of the seven avatars of the Dinosaur Gods.
- Yamato Tribe: Geki and Burai's tribe, symbolized by the Tyrannosaurus. Also has the symbol of the Dragon, as the Dragon Armor was its treasure.
- Yamato King: Geki's adopted father, ruler of the Yamato Kingdom.
- Black Knight: Geki and Burai's birth father, was a prideful man who did not respect the Yamato King. He dueled with the King to get his baby son Geki back, but was killed trying.
- Shama Tribe: Goushi's tribe, symbolized by the Mammoth.
- Otome: Goushi's long dead older sister, who Goushi swore vengeance for.
- Etofu Tribe: Dan's tribe, symbolized by the Triceratops.
- Daimu Tribe: Boi's tribe, symbolized by the Smilodon.
- Reshiya Tribe: Mei's tribe, symbolized by the Pteranodon.
- Reshiya Tribe Princess Yui: Former Princess of Mei's tribe.
Others
- Jin (ジン, Jin) / Dora Jin (ドーラジン, Dōra Jin) (11): A genie who has the power to grant wishes. Bandora stole the lamp and turned Jin into a Dora Monster, shattering the lamp in the process. After his lamp was restored, Jin returned to normal. He was sealed away to prevent any further use for evil.
- DonDon (ドンドン, Dondon) (14): An elf who was applying for a job as Pleprechuan’s assistant, but was kicked out by Bandora. DonDon met a kindred spirit in Toshio, a boy who also got frequently picked on. They become friends and go around sucking things into DonDon’s magic bottles — including planes and buildings with people inside. After seeing DonDon trapping Boi and Dan in his bottle, Bandora decided to recruit DonDon, promising to both him and Toshio the power to get back at all the people who push them around. It took Toshio’s mother to convince him and DonDon that there are people who care about them. After he and Toshio return everything to normal, DonDon goes on his way, but not before giving Toshio a black toy replica of Daizyujin.
- Monster Goda (ゴダ, Monster Goda) (39): An underground monster who was powerful, but had a gentle heart. Goda rarely lays eggs, so he was extremely protective of his line. He lost it when two of his eggs were devoured by Bandora's gang, who then gave the blame to the Zyurangers. The Zyurangers tried to comply with Goda by telling him that they had nothing to do with the eggs, but Goda was too enraged and distraught to listen. After Goda ran off, Bandora toyed with Goda's emotions by saying she'll restore his eggs if he destroys the Zyurangers for her. He agreed, being filled with a hatred of humans as he enlarges. Despite their pleas, Goda was too hate-filled and had to be killed by Gouryuujin. But the last egg would hatch eventually, with a new Goda to be born.
Villains
- Great Satan ([Dai Satan] Error: {{nihongo}}: text has italic markup (help)) (30-31, 48-50): The ultimate evil of the Zyuranger universe, a floating blue-skinned head. He used Bandora to try to lay the Earth to waste 170 million years ago and uses her again to finish the job. He was banished by Ultimate Daizyujin back in the past. Later, Bandora summons him with the help of the Satan Tower and was defeated once by Ultimate Daizyujin. He even brought Kai back to life to cement the deal. He was finally killed by his arch-nemesis, Ultimate Daizyujin, in the finale.
- Kai (カイ, Kai) (47-50): Bandora's dead son who was killed in a fight with a dinosaur, which he started. Resurrected by Great Satan for the series finale as the main pilot of Dora Talos. He later dies in his mother's arms following Dora Talos' final destruction. His father is unknown but assumed to have been married to Bandora.
- The Bandora Gang (バンドーラ一味, Bandōra Ichimi): They are Bandora's forces. They are merciless (but hilarious) minions of darkness who were sealed away for causing evil to mankind. They are released thanks to the carelessness of two astronauts. Bandora and her minions were located at the Bandra Palace, which was on the Moon. Though their intent was making Earth a wasteland, they also caused mischief for the Zyurangers until they were sealed again in the finale.
- Witch Bandora (魔女・バンドーラ, Majo Bandōra): An evil witch who was queen of the Fairy Tribe Dall, until her son Kai was inadvertently killed by a dinosaur. Torn by grief, she went mad and sold her soul to Great Satan for the power to avenge her son and slaughtered the dinosaurs. She has seemingly unlimited magical abilities, including enlarging her Dora Monsters and she serves as the arch-nemesis of the Zyurangers. Hates children as of the current day when she completely forgot about her son Kai as there is a kind of forgetfulness that comes with madness. Because of that, she simply focused on attacking innocent human children and using them as her victims and simply focused on her aims of dominating over the world. She occasionally sings her theme song, Dora! The Song of Witch Bandora which was sung after Burai first appeared. Has a bad habit of getting extremely furious when defeated in a hilarious manner and gets headaches at times, only to be comforted by her fellow warriors like Grifforzer. Does crazy things like going on a crash diet as well and sometimes fires her powers at her followers when they fail her which is quite stereopycical for sentai arch-enemies, in her case as the arch-enemy of the Zyurangers. Ironically loses her powers after shedding a tear over Kai's death and is sealed away by Daizyujin along with all her henchmen. During the last time we see her, she is overwhelmed by the cuteness of Lamie and Grifforzer's son and cradles him around. Unlike most evil queens that usually died in Sentai, she was simply sealed off after her last defeat and has a funny side too.
- Grifforzer (グリフォーザー, Guriffōzā): A lion-faced griffin knight who wields the Grifocaliber IV sword and can fly with the help of his retractable wings. He is Lamie's husband. Grifforzer was mute until Lamie came along. Despite his being mute, he is still capable of driving command to his soldiers with his vicious personality. He is violent and a brilliant tactician with amazing strength as well, which he is a dangerous opponent nonetheless, being able to outlast Daizyujin even alone. Had a son with Lamie towards the end of the series which Bandora adores. Unlike the others, he is less of a comedy relief like Pleprechuan.
- Lamie (ラミイ, Ramii) / Lamia-Scorpion (Ramia-Scorpion) (19-50): Human-looking agent of Bandora who entered the scene after 170 million years of waiting for the return of her husband, Grifforzer. She wields the Lamie Boomerang, a crescent-shaped blade that doubles as a sword. But when she is enlarged, she becomes the monstrous Lamia-Scorpion with an electrocuting stinger on her ponytail which is still a dangerous opponent to Daizyujin. When Grifforzer had already somewhat caused Daizyujin trouble, she was also enlarged. She gives birth to her and Grifforzer's son at the end of the series, who looks human.
- Bookback (ブックバック, Bukkubakku): A blue skinned hobgoblin who records of Bandora's evil deeds. He is extremely stupid, weak-willed, a coward and usually provides as a comical relief alongside with Tottpatt and Bandora's irritation as well.
- Tottpatt (トット・パット, Tottopatto): A wingless vampire bat monster who has never tasted blood and is a scatterbrain alchemist. A fast-talker sort, talking faster when nervous. He is the companion of Bookback and much of a comedy relief.
- Pleprechuan (プリプリカン, Puripurikan): A leprechaunish potter who forges the Dora Monsters and Golem Soldiers out of clay. He rarely shows up in battle and focuses more on enemy tactics. He is extremely brilliant and somewhat all-knowing, and he is not much of a comedy relief compared to the rest.
- Golems (ゴーレム兵, Gōremu): Warriors made out of clay. Their hands can change into varying shapes like boulder-fists & stone-blades. Their unorthodox tactics involve amassing in large numbers, dancing around enemies before going in for the attack. They are nearly able to regenerate their bodies after being destroyed.
- Captain Golems: Armored versions of the Golems, usually lead the others.
- Dokiita Golems (29): Stronger versions of ordinary Golems, their regeneration abilities are advanced to the point that they each can split into two new Dokiita Golems from the scattered remains. Geki and Burai had to retrieve the Thunder Slingers to defeat them, evaporating them.
- Fake Zyuranger (偽ジュウレンジャー, Nise Jūrenja) (46): Dora Mirage transformed four Golems into duplicates of Mammoth Ranger, Tricera Ranger, Tiger Ranger, Ptera Ranger.
Arsenal and Mecha
- Grifocaliber IV: Grifforzar's sword, as strong as TyrannoRanger's Ryuugekiken.
- Bandora's Altar (17, 30): Bandora only uses her altar for when she has to concer up more powerful magic spells.
- Sword of Hellfriede (18-22): Dangerous evil sword Burai took from a dead knight and used to duel his brother Geki. Whoever held the sword made the bearer go crazy. Burai's tears made it turn to sand in the end.
- Lamie Boomerang: Lamie's weapon.
- Dokiita-Clay (28-29): Bandora used this special clay to create super-powered Golems and Dora Franke. Golems mined for the clay in a cave on Earth and Pleprechuan made Golems that were indestructible. The Thunder Slingers were fetched by Geki and Burai to defeat the Golems.
- Satan's Tower (29-31, 48): Bandora constructs this tower to summon Great Satan from Hell. She had to gather thirteen children to be sacrificed. She called Great Satan for the first time to donate power to Zombie Franke and then again to devastate the Earth in the finale.
- Magic Spinning Wheel (34): A giant spinning wheel with spikes on the end, it put a girl named Rie to sleep, leaving Burai to watch over her infant sister Michiko. Destroyed by Ultimate Daizyujin.
- Mirror of Havoc (36): Whoever looked into this mirror would be killed instantly. The map to find it was found by a boy named Tadashi. Used on Dora Ganrock, and later it was destroyed by Daizyujin.
- Dora Talos ([Dōra Tarosu] Error: {{nihongo}}: text has italic markup (help)) (47-48) / Dora Talos II ([Dōra Tarosu II] Error: {{nihongo}}: text has italic markup (help)) (48-50): A giant white mecha piloted by Kai, Bandora's resurrected son. It has various weapons and could use Kai's telekineses. Daizyujin, Dragon Caesar and Gouryuujin were of no match for this new menace. After being destroyed by Ultimate Daizyujin, Bandora cast a spell that caused the ground to callapse from underneath King Brachion, causing him to sink into the ground, with the Dinosaur Eggs inside. Great Satan later rebuilt Dora Talos into a more powerful form with extended blades from its arms which it used to severe Daizyujin's left arm and half of Dragon Caesar's tail, leaving Bandora free to cast a spell that causes the two to disappear. The Zyurangers later learn from Burai's ghost that Daizyujin, Dragon Caesar and King Brachion were trapped in Bandora's Magic Realm. After the Zyurangers escaped after smashing globes containing their Guardian Beasts, they were back at full strength and attacked Dora Talos through several quickly-asceding stages: separate Guardian Beasts, Daizyujin, Dragon Caesar, Gouryuujin and finally Ultimate Daizyujin destroying both Great Satan and Dora Talos forever.
Dora Monsters
Made out of clay by Pleprechuan and "processed" by the Neodora Machine oven. When defeated, Bandora would throw her staff, DoraSepter to Earth and use the ghosts from underground to regenerate the monster. The spell goes, “Sleeping evil spirits in the earth... into the body of (name of monster)... Become power... for him/her/them!”. The new Dokiita-Clay was used from episode 28 powering up the monsters.
- Dora Titan ([Dōra Taitan] Error: {{nihongo}}: text has italic markup (help)) (1-2): A giant knight with a sword. He gave the Zyurangers a run for their money until Tyrannosaurus emerged. Killed by Tyrannosaurus after Dora Skeleton was killed.
- Dora Skeleton (2): A skeleton with a large hat, who could reassemble his body after being blown apart. His flying, disembodied skull could teleport people to a shadowy world. He was the only Dora Monster with his own grunts. Killed when TigerRanger threw his head down a lava pit causing his body to be destroyed.
- Dora Minotaurous ([Dōra Minotaurusu] Error: {{nihongo}}: text has italic markup (help)) (3-4): This Dora Monster was used in an attempt to keep the Zyurangers from gaining the Legendary Weapons, and from saving a boy named Hiroshi. Armed with a spiked club and shield, he could burrow underground. He could also shoot lightning from his horns and breathe a stream of fire. He received the full-brunt of the Howling Cannon, destroying him.
- Dora Sphinx ([Dōra Sphinxu] Error: {{nihongo}}: text has italic markup (help)) (5-6): Posing as a game show host in a tuxedo and pharaoh's head-dress, he gives children un-answerable riddles. Once the children fail to answer correctly or run out of time, Dora Sphinx blows them off with his wings to imprisoned them in trees that are subject to be cut down very soon. In his true form, he wields a sceptre & could shoots a laser from the cobra ornament on his headdress. He was the first Dora Monster to fall at the hands of Daizyujin.
- Dora Goblin ([Dōra Goburin] Error: {{nihongo}}: text has italic markup (help)) (7): A Dora Monster whose favorite food is the souls of children, who he hypnotizes with his accordion. Dora Goblin can become invisible to adult eyes unless his puts his shoes on the wrong feet, which a boy named Toru exposes. The Zyurangers managed to use that to their advantage and defeated him. Killed by Daizyujin.
- Dora Circe ([Dōra Kiruke] Error: {{nihongo}}: text has italic markup (help)) (8): A pig monster who lives only to eat. He was created when Bandora was going on a crash diet and was annoyed at the enjoyment of an overweight family with a boy named Mamoru. Dora Circe immediately began to eat everything in sight, and was too fast to be seen by normal humans. When battling the Zyurangers, Dora Circe swallowed their weapons, but was driven away by Gnome. Gnome revealed that Dora Circe's weakness is Moly and gave it to Boi after he beat him in an eating contest. Through deception, the gang managed to get him to eat the Moly, which caused him to throw up everything he ate. Bandora was too-starved to grow her monster, so it was destroyed by the Howling Cannon.
- Dora Cockatrice (9) / Dora Cockatrice II (10): A flying Dora Monster armed with a pair of scissors which he used to cut open a door in time and space to teleport during a fight, and used Prince Euro and a girl named Emiko as hostages. He was killed by Daizyujin, but was then recreated. The newer Cockatrice was armed with a pair of hedge trimmers and was able to fire crescent-shaped energy blades from the head-crest. Once again killed by Daizyujin.
- Dora Argus (12): A mass of eyeballs sent to torment a little girl named Michi via hallucinations of her father as a vampire. He had an array of energy beam attacks he could launch from his various eyes, and could reassemble himself if blown apart as long as his main eye is unharmed. He could also suck people inside his main eye to an illusionary world. Killed by Daizyujin.
- Dora Ladon (13): A Dora Monster whose source of power was the golden-apple on his head. Knowing that Mei could be its downfall, Bandora infected her with a poison apple, which put her to sleep. Dora Ladon used his snake-arrow to have small youth-draining apple-trees sprout from children's heads. Ladon could also open his large mouth to spit out poisonous snakes at his foes, which would wrap up and weaken their targets. He had the upper hand against the others until Mei appeared. She used her Ptera Arrow to destroy the monster's apple and thus weakened him so he could be destroyed with the Howling Cannon.
- Dora Knight ([Dōra Naito] Error: {{nihongo}}: text has italic markup (help)) (15): An expert swordsman who used Durandal, an evil sword which Bandora had a 10-year old boy, Shigeru, make at midnight. This made Dora Knight invincible as Durandal made any other weapon it clashes with rusty. The only thing Durandal was unable to do was kill it's creator, Shigeru. Once Shigeru was in Daizyujin, Dora Knight was powerless and died.
- Dora Endos (16): Posing as a clown, he could create soccer balls that contained a sneezing powder, using a boy named Isamu to do the dirty work. Once in his true form, he could spew little globs of exploding energy, and spray his sneezing powder. His only weakness was exposure to water and cold. Killed by Tyrannosaurus after ZyuMammoth immobilzed Dora Endos.
- Dora Pixie (23): A unicorn-horned boy with fangs in a baseball uniform. He threw cupid-baseballs. Mei succeed in breaking off his horn and not only cancel the spell, but also revealed Pixie's true "giant ogre" form. First to be killed by Gouryuujin.
- Dora Tortoise (24): A Dora Monster created by Tottpatt & Bookback. The monster's main attack is a traffic light sticking out of his neck. He could make people compel to move (green) or freeze them in place (Red). He also had a number of weapons hidden in his shell provided by Bukbuck which included a cannon, a baseball bat, and a metal hook. Killed by the combined teamwork of Dragon Caesar and Tyrannosaurus.
- Dora Tarantula (25): A Dora Monster held within a replica of a fairy statue made by a late nature lover, who left his two grandchildren, Daijiro and Michiru. The strange butterflies that surround the statue sprinkle a poison on children. Goushi realized something was wrong and exposed the monster when he realized he was right. Dora Tarantula spewed an acidic foam and thick webbing to shock his enemies. He could also shoot beams from his eyes and mandibles, and exploding stingers from his body. Killed by Gouryuujin.
- Dora Boogaranan (26): A frog-like monster who could swallow people, either from a beam projected from his horn or his long tongue after losing his horn. He could also create a force field to reflect energy. Killed by Mei with the Ptera Arrow.
- Dora Guzzler (27): A plant demon who was too powerful for even Gouryuujin to fight. Mei was able to defeat it by repeating the same step her ancestor, Reshiya Tribe Princess Yui, had done at the cost of her life. However while she lay down with a legendary lily to lure the monster, Mei was armed and managed to fatally wound the monster and the Zyurangers used the Howling Cannon to finish the job.
- Dora Franke (28-29) / Zombie Franke (29-30) / Satan Franke (30-31): The first Dora Monster made from Dokiita-clay. He displayed superior strength than previous Dora Monsters. Upon getting hit by the Ranger Slingers and impaled by Gouryuujin, the power of Dokiita-clay transformed him into Zombie Franke. He fought the Zyurangers while Bandora gathered the ingredients to summon Great Satan. On Earth, Great Satan infused Zombie Franke with some of his power, turning him into the lethal Satan Franke. He overpowered Daizyujin and Dragon Caesar, by spraying white foam that sapped their energy, causing them to go to sleep on the ground and forcing the Zyurangers to retreat. But upon unlocking the true power of the Guardian Beasts, Daizyujin and Dragon Caesar combined for the first time into Beast Emperor Daizyujin and defeated Satan Franke.
- Dora Narcissus (32): A Plant Dora Monster said to have life-giving powers. He absorbs humans through vines the protrude from behind and into his abdomen. He produces flash energy blasts from his eyes. He was used to make Geki hesitate to kill him due his hopes to keep Burai alive. Narcissus' weakness was in his own vanity, as he would stop to admire himself whenever he saw his reflection. Could also make itself grow. Daizyujin took advantage of Narcissus' vanity in order to kill him.
- Dora Laygor (33): A Dora Monster who possessed a blue-jewel of great power on her crown. Both this jewel and a red-one were sister fairy-princesses whom Bandora turn into gems. Only by the gems touching each other would the curse be lifted. Laygor was invincible until the owner of the red-jewel, Saori, slams her jewel into the blue-jewel and broke the curse. Rendered powerless, Laygor was quickly destroyed by the Ranger Slingers.
- Dora Ninja (35, 49-50): A Dora Monster sent to capture a special potion to give extended life. Armed with Ninja-like weapons including a sickle on a chain and katana sword. Killed by Daizyujin (King Brachion helped out before Daizyujin formed). He, along with Fake, Chimera and Mirage later return as ghosts in Bandora's Magic Realm when the Zyurangers went to rescue their Guardian Beasts.
- Dora Ganrock (36): A stone Dora Monster that could shoot rocks out from his stomach to whoever they hit and weighed them down so they couldn't move. Killed by the Mirror of Havoc.
- Dora Goldhorn ([Dōra Kinkaku] Error: {{nihongo}}: text has italic markup (help)) (37): A samurai Dora Monster armed with a large fan that he could use to blow people away (literally it can) and a magic jar that could suck people inside. He also used a pole as a weapon, as well as a rake that is identical to the one used by Dora Goblin. Goldhorn could also use the spikes on the side of his headgear as expolding darts. Killed by Ultimate Daizyujin.
- Dora Silkis (38): This pet of Lamie's fed on children's souls. It managed to trap the Rangers (minus Mei) in a cocoon. It would later assume its full size when Mei interfered one time too many. It was then enlarged and killed by Beast Emperor Daizyujin.
- Dora Fake ([Dōra Gansaku] Error: {{nihongo}}: text has italic markup (help)) (40-42, 49-50): A Cyclops Dora Monster that took on the forms of the Guardian Beasts. He could project energy beams from his eye. He first posed as Dragon Caesar to lure DragonRanger out of hiding. Though he retreated once the real Dragon Cesar appeared, Bandora succeeded in finding the location of the Lapseless Room and destroyed it. Dora Fake was later launched to attack as Gouryuujin. Burai called for Dragon Caesar, but despite defeating Dora Fake as it posed as Daizyujin, Gouryuujin again, and Tyrannosaurus, Dragon Caesar and Burai were on the verge of defeat. The other Zyurangers soon arrived and used the Ultimate Daizyujin to finally destroy it seconds before Burai's time ran out, and also saving a boy named Kota's life. He, along with Ninja, Chimera and Mirage later return as ghosts in Bandora's Magic Realm when the Zyurangers went to rescue their Guardian Beasts.
- Dora Antaeus (43): A giant bird/dinosaur monster that revived into a stronger form every time it dies. This monster came along during a time when both Geki and Dragon Caesar were still suffering over the loss of Burai. Knowing this, Bandora took advantage of this and cast a spell that binded Dragon Caesar's arms to his sides. It also caused Dragon Caesar to hardly move, let alone fight and became weaker and weaker. Daizyujin had a tough time handling Dora Antaeus until Geki jumps inside and found the monster's heart and summoned the Dragon Armor, revitalizing Dragon Caesar, causing him to overcome Bandora's magic as he realized the others needed his help. So Dragon Caesar used his tail to cut a hole in Dora Antaeus, enabling Geki to escape with the monster's heart flying out. After Geki obliterated the heart, he and the others formed Ultimate Daizyujin to finally finish off Dora Antaeus for good.
- Dora Chimera ([Dōra Kimaira] Error: {{nihongo}}: text has italic markup (help)) (44, 49-50): A Dora Monster who could absorb people to use their talents as his own, even their special weapons. Among those he absorbed were an archer, a hockey player, and a swordswoman Goushi befriended named Sayaka. Chimera could shoot beams from the eyes of his lion head, and his goat head could create tornadoes and gusts of snow. He overpowered the other Zyurangers, and was about to add them to his collection when Goushi arrived and assaulted Dora Chimera with extreme prejudice, freeing everyone he consumed. Chimera was enlarged and then killed by Daizyujin. He, along with Ninja, Fake and Mirage later return as ghosts in Bandora's Magic Realm when the Zyurangers went to rescue their Guardian Beasts.
- Dora Unicorn (45): A winged Dora Monster who took advantage of an environmentalist boy named Kouichi, so that any attack inflicted on him is felt by Kouichi via the monster's horn. But Geki managed to destroy the horn, putting the monster at a disadvantage. Killed by Daizyujin while riding King Tankor.
- Dora Mirage (46, 49-50): A mirror-covered monster who posed as TyrannoRanger and disguised four Golems as doppelgängers of the other Zyurangers in a plan to frame them. Once exposed, he fought the Zyurangers personally until he was killed by the Howling Cannon. He, along with Ninja, Fake and Chimera later return as ghosts in Bandora's Magic Realm when the Zyurangers went to rescue their Guardian Beasts.

Names & Puns
Zyurangers
- Geki's name means "intensity". Also Yamato means Ancient Japan.
Legendary Weapons
- Under translation, "Ryuugekiken" and "Zyusouken" are translated as "Dragon Attack Sword" and "Beast Play Sword" respectively.
Guardian Beasts
- Under translation, "Daizyujin (as Daijūjin)" and "Gouryuujin (as Gōryūjin)" are translated as "Great Beast God" and "Strong Dragon God" respectively.
- Dragon Caesar is Zyuranger's homage to the King of Monsters, Godzilla, if he wore samurai armor.
- Oddly enough, only two out of six Rangers actually have dinosaurs as avatars, three if you count a dragon as a dinosaur. The avatars are:
- Tyrannosaurus (Red)
- Mammoth (Black)
- Triceratops (Blue)
- Smilodon (Yellow)
- Pteranodon (Pink)
- Dragon (Green)
- Brachiosaurus (no associated Ranger)
Bandora Gang
- Bandora's name was a pun on Pandora, which was also the name of a character played by the same actress (Machiko Soga) in the 1986 show Jikuu Senshi Spielban.
- Grifforzer, Lamie, Tottpatt, Bookback, Pleprechuan were based on the Griffin, Lamia, the Vampire, the Hobgoblin, and the Leprechaun, respectively.
- Mostly every Dora Monster was based off a classic mythological figure.
- They are similar to the Violent Demons of Turboranger especially where they are sealed and released thanks to man's wickedness.
Trivia
- The show's opening & ending theme song is sung by Kenta Satou, who played Riki Honoo/Red Turbo in Kousoku Sentai Turboranger.
- Zyuranger included two actors who were in Jetman as guest stars, Yuuta Mochizuki (J1/Geki) & Hideki Fujiwara (Dan/Dan).
- After Zyuranger ended, Yuuta Mochizuki appeared in Sailor Moon Musicals (Seramyu) for 7 and a half years. He was the second longest running cast member to have performed in the musical, and is the longest running actor to have played four different characters (Kunzite, Mamoru Chiba/Tuxedo Kamen, King Endymion and Count Dracula). He was also an action coach between 1998 and 2001.
- Despite the show's title, only two of the Zyurangers have true Dinosaurs as avatars (Tyrannosaurus, and Triceratops), or three if you count the Dragon as a Dinosaur. The Pteranodon, currently considered as a separate type of reptile, was classified as a dinosaur at the time the series was produced.
- After Zyuranger, Yuuta Mochizuki played the lead role in Kamen Rider J. He is a part of a handful of Sentai actors who went on to play a Kamen Rider after appearing in at least one Sentai series. He conciliates the filming of movie with his acting in Sailor Moon Musicals.
- Machiko Soga also played Queen Hedrian in both Denshi Sentai Denjiman and Taiyou Sentai Sun Vulcan and would later appear in the Mahou Sentai Magiranger Movie and TV Series as Heavenly Arch Saint Magiel, her last Tokusatsu role before her death the following year from pancreatic cancer.
- Jun Tatara, who played Barza, died from lung disfunction at 12:40 AM on September 30, 2006.
- Many of the villain concepts, though altered, were reused from Turboranger. [citation needed]
- Shiro Izumi (Izumi Shirō), who played Burai, also played Yuuma Oozora/Change Pegasus in Dengeki Sentai Changeman and guest-starred in Super Sentai World, which also featured, among other teams, Zyuranger (only in costume).
- In the "base" of the logo, the kanji 獣連者 are given. They are translated as "Beast Group Members", and can be read as jūrenja. The reading is very similar to the final word of the series' name (jūrenjā), which is given in katakana.
- A video game adaptation of the series was released by Angel Studios for the Nintendo Famicom game console in Japan.
- Even though the character Goushi is the oldest of the main five, the actor Aohisa Takayasu is actually two months younger than Yuuta Mochizuki.
- Unlike other Super Sentai programs, the primary antagonists were not killed off at the end of the series. They were sealed off into a jar instead. Also, the villains are primarily comic relief, as opposed to the more serious villains of past Sentai series. Bandora is seen to be an even lighter version of evil queens from past Sentai programs.
- This was the first season to feature an active sixth member with the addition of Burai.
- This is the first Super Sentai series wherein the slain warrior had no replacement opposite other Sentai series wherein the slain warriors where immediately replaced on the next episode after their deaths.
- It was also the first Sentai show that didn't enlarge certain monsters for certain episodes due to certain reasons. [citation needed]
- Episodes 18, 23, 24 and 37 featured Zyurangers not transformed at all in the episode (Geki 18) (Burai 23, 24 and 37).
- The costumes for Golem Soldiers was later used for the foot soldiers for the 2003 Live Action version of Sailor Moon (used in episode 27).

Footnotes
- ^ Kyōryū Sentai Jūrenjā; jū can be translated as beast, and kanji are given on the "base" of the logo (獣連者), and the word "Zyuranger" appears on official sources, so "zyu" is considered a meaningless proper noun, albeit a pun on the Japanese word for beast, which appears in other names in the show.
