Rocío Colette Acuña Calzada |
---|
Rocio Colette Acuña Calzada (born June 3, 1982 in Ciudad Victoria,
Tamaulipas Mexico) was one of the 4 finalists of the 5th generation of the
popular Mexican reality singing show La Academia. Colette won the 2nd
place, just few votes behind 1st place Samuel Castelan Marini.
Colette's 2nd place caused disagreement in her many followers that
said Samuel's 1st place was arranged by La Academia production because
the final concert was held at Veracruz (Samuel's city of origin).
After winning 2nd place at La Academia 5th Generation, Record Company
Sony Music offered Colette a contract to work with them. It is expected
that famous Spanish composer Rafael Perez Botija produce her new
album. Rafael Perez Botija has produced famous Mexican artists such as
Jose Jose and Lucero; he also has worked with famous Spanish singer
Rocio Durcal (rip)
Who is Colette?
One of the most brilliant students in La Academia's 5th Generation,
always disciplined, and firm in her desicions, she easily was placed
as one of the audience favorites.
She's distinguished by her mystic, authentic and free voice. Colette
since the beginning of the show was positioned as the favorite to win
the contest. She was the first one that caused a standing ovation with
her Frank Sinatra's interpretation of My Way. She caused such a
strong impression that one of the critics (famous Mexican musical
actress Lolita Cortes) cried and congratulated her saying that she was
honored to be part of Colette's beginning career.
Colette's interpretation of "My Way" : [1]
In this same concert, one of Colette's memorable moments was when her
mother Leonor Calzada visited her after been submitted to a strong
operation and sang with her. The moment was so emotive that tears and
applauses from the audience immediately occured.
Other of Colette's memorable interpretations at La Academia includes "Coming Out of the Dark" from Gloria Estefan, "El Amor Coloca" from Monica Naranjo "Malo" from Spanish singer Bebe and "Hasta la Cima del Cielo" form Venezuelan singer and composer Ricardo Montaner
One of Colette's hard moments at La Academia was that she suffered a
disfunction with her vocal cords causing her nodules. This affected
her singing performance, but she was strong enough to always give
perfect interpretations every Sunday at the concerts.
Colette's talent comes from her family, her aunt Consuelo Vidal was
the last singer of famous mexican composer Agustin Lara.
Always prudent and sensitive and with a wonderful voice, before she
entered La Academia, Colette was part of a musical group and took
singing lessons.
Personal Life
Colette's favorite singers are Whitney Houston, Frank Sinatra and
Celine Dion. Her hobbies include listening to music. Her favorite
colors are turqoise blue and maroon. She describes herself as someone friendly and sensitive, but strong
when defending her ideals.
Love Life
While her staying at La Academia, she was involved in a "Love
triangle" with Samuel Castelan Marini (1st place winner) and Karla Renata Rodriguez Barajas (4th place winner)
Samuel Castelan Marini confessed that he felt attraction to both
Colette and Renata but later he confirmed that the owner of his heart
was Colette. Colette also confessed that she felt a strong
attraction towards Samuel but nothing serious happened between them.
Nevertheless their behaivour demonstrated that between them existed
"something more" but they never confessed.
