Short Satellite

The Short S.4 Satellite was a small, all-metal, two-seater sporting monoplane first produced in 1924.

History

The original aircraft was fitted with an ungeared Bristol Cherub engine. After the Air Minitry's light aeroplane competition at Lympne in 1924, where the Satellite was flown by the company's test pilot Mr. J. Lankester Parker, it was fitted first with the geared version of the Cherub and subsequently with the A.B.C Scorpion Mk. II engine, both of which greatly improved its maximum speed.

Design

It had a duralumin monocoque fuselage with cantilever wings, 34ft span and was fitted initially with an ungeared Bristol Cherub engine, with which it had a top speed of 70 m.p.h.
