GuideML is an markup language variant used on HooToo, h2g2. GuideML has two major tastes:

  • one for GuideML entries
  • one for plaintext entries and postings

GuideML is an acronym for Guide Markup Language. It aims to be compatible with XML standards, but in effect it is just a subset of HTML with some fancy extra tags. The aim is to provide a simple kind of HTML for use in textual based pages. Scripts are not allowed on HooToo and are voided by the parsers publishing a version of pages.

One of the most famous 'extra' tags is the <VIEWER/> which results in displaying a user's nickname, if the user is online.
