Howdy, The Anon! It's your friendly neighbor AVnative responding to your request - you wanted me to look over the Pearblossom article. Great start! As you can see, I've added some more material to it (and tweaked your text a bit) to respond to our friend User:JamesMLane's query he posted at the Palmdale page. Hope you like it as much as the Palmdale major edit I did.

Also, don't forget there's much info floating around the Internet about Antelope Valley communities, and the valley itself. Some dubious, some good stuff. Of course you have to consider the source and why it is out there on the 'net. Happy surfing/contributing! --avnative 23:51, Aug 20, 2004 (UTC)

Dialogue on Palmdale info box

Top of the mornin' to you, Anon! Hey. . . I didn't order you to talk to Mackerm, it was my kind thought and suggestion! But glad you did get in touch with him, and great that he has been of such great help. I admire him scouring up the things he gets for those infoboxes, and passed on my knowledge to you.

The Palmdale seal/flag/map/infobox is looking good, my friend! Couple of pointers, though: Remember that your favorite phrase - world's largest - is not something you can say lightly. WP editors like me (and others besides) will mercilessly edit out untruth, and unattributed statements which are that grandiose in nature. In that light, when you put up "City Nickname:Aerospace Capital of the World" you are using a phrase that the City of El Segundo, California government and Wichita, Kansas also use. (Just for starters - only using a cursory Dogpile Internet search) The fact of the matter is, all three of these cities have significant aerospace activities. So who gets to decide who is the "aerospace capital" of anywhere? I don't know of a proper entity. Do you? So. . . in the meantime. . . I'd much prefer toning down the nickname from "world" to at least "United States." I know Palmdale city government, in its hype to outdo Tokyo in population (not literally, but you get my drift) has stated in its Internet site "the aerospace capital of the world", but - as I've said to you before, just because city government documents say it's so does not make it so. One has to check out the matter in good old academic fashion, and find out the truth of the matter. Cities like Palmdale tend to hype themselves to the nth degree. Keep in mind that Seattle, Washington probably also regards itself as owning the nickname (though chatter on the Internet is not as apparent). For that matter, wherever the place is on the European continent where Airbus Industrie is located would probably be using the nickname too. . .

So if you want to use the nickname as is, be my guest - but I'd strongly suggest using either a less controversial/more verifiable nickname, or pairing it up with one of two other Palmdale nicknames the City of Palmdale government has used: "A Place to Call Home" (current slogan) or even "First City of the Antelope Valley" (its original city slogan and nickname, dating from 1962). Let me know what you think! (smile) --avnative 14:47, Aug 25, 2004 (UTC)

Palmdale Topo Map

Howdy, Anon! Just got a message from our topo mapmaker extraordinaire, Kbh3rd and he has a really great map. Come join us in the discussion at my user page, User talk:Avnative and let us know what you think! (I also have something nice for you on my regular page, too. . .) --avnative 02:45, Aug 28, 2004 (UTC)

My pleasure

in giving you some recognition on my page. I'm in the business of drawing people in, not casting them off - because my Powerful Friend is in that same exact business. . . and yes, I'm reasonably good at "letting the spring go off slowly." I too have things to learn, and the older I get the more that fact is reinforced. Now we're at the level I wanted us to be at the conclusion of our postponed dinner meeting. Glad you (and I) are at this felicitous point! Bask in it and enjoy! (very wide grin) --avnative 15:47, Aug 29, 2004 (UTC)

I got your message on my page. Thought it was best to leave the entire discussion there. Please take a looksee at what the current situation is at my user talk page. Thanks! --avnative 00:02, Sep 1, 2004 (UTC)

Palmdale Pride and Progress & Lancaster's Heart

Top o' the mornin' to ya, Anon! Great to hear from you. Glad to know you've been working behind the scenes in getting the Lancaster history section and the info box worked on. The info box looks excellent! I admire you for learning how to color in the box. I know Mackerm gave you an info assist on that. . . isn't collaboration wonderful? (tee hee) Anyway, I'd say the Lancaster info box is ready to go. You did contact City Hall on Fern Ave. to get permission on the seal, right?

On writing Lancaster's history: hopefully you've got the 1876 SP RR train stop and the 1884 M. L. Wicks LA Herald newspaper lot promotion covered. Western Hotel (oldest extant building), LA County administrative building @ Lan Blvd & Cedar Ave, Marion Morrison (John Wayne), Frances Gumm (Judy Garland), Carl Bergstrom, Barbara Little, Art and Grace Pickus, Antelope Al, AV Fair, Whit Carter & Lancaster Radio, Methodist Church ice cream social, Catholic Church BBQ, the establishment of Edwards AFB, AV College new 1960 campus, Stanley Kleiner, failed incorporation attempts, Palmdale's feared enroachment, 1977 incorporation, and modern growth in your writeup. If not, of course I'll add where it's useful after you post your edit.

As far as Palmdale goes, the topo map, as you may recall, is done. It is located here. I think it's ready to go! The pixs are in the process of being taken (death in the family delays my using that really nice camera I hoped to use) and I'm still trying to get to the last Thursday night on the Square for good pixs this Thursday. The history section I can do from memory, but I have been trying to get an interview with Larry Chimbole as a primary source, which if given some extra time will make it a standout piece. Thanks for your patience! I hope to have at least the pixs uploaded by this time next week. --avnative 14:18, Sep 15, 2004 (UTC)
