Sumatra PDF is composed from two parts:
- MuPDF - PDF library.
- Poppler - PDF library.
Sumatra PDF has a minimalistic design. Simplicity has a higher priority than a lot of features. It's small and starts up very fast. It's designed for portable use: it's just one file with no external dependencies so you can easily run it from external USB drive[1].
Sumatra PDF costs less than 1 MB for setup file compared to 27.5 MB of Adobe Reader.
Security is another advantage point of Sumatra PDF. Sumatra doesn't do anything except view the PDF. That makes it almost bullet-proof from a hacker's point of view[2].
One interesting feature of Sumatra PDF is that it remembers exactly the last opened page for each pdf file. This helps it be a very useful pdf e-book reader.
A version of Sumatra is available as a portable application from PortableApps.com. You can place it on your USB flash drive, iPod, portable hard drive or a CD and use it on any computer, without leaving any personal information behind[3].
