Cabaret is a form of entertainment featuring comedy, song, dance, and theatre, distinguished mainly by the performance venue - a restaurant or nightclub with a stage for performances and the audience sitting around the tables watching the performance.
The term is a french word for coffee-tray, used in the parisian bars and other places in which this genre was born (mainly the café-chantants).
It is also the name of a well-known Broadway musical (see Cabaret (musical)), from which a famous film was derived, with Liza Minnelli.
