LiveScript is the old name of the programming language JavaScript, also known as ECMAScript. Netscape changed the name to reflect some similarities with Sun's language Java. The unfortunate change proved a source of much confusion. To be short, there is no real relation between Java and JavaScript. Their only similarities are some syntax and the fact that both technologies are used extensively on on the World Wide Web.
