In Greek Mythology, Poseidon was the god of the sea, known to the Romans as Neptune. When the world was divided in three, Zeus received the earth and sky, Hades the underworld and Poseidon the sea. He was also the god of earthquakes and horses.

His wife was Amphitrite.

He is best known for his hatred of Odysseus, preventing his return home to Ithaca for many years.

Poseidon had sex with Alope, his grandaughter through Cercyon, begetting Hippothoon. Cercyon had his daughter buried alive but Poseidon turned her into the spring, Alope, near Eleusis.

Poseidon rescued Amymone from a lecherous satyr and then father a child, Nauplius, by her.

Poseidon was one of the caretakers of the Oracle at Delphi before Apollo took it over.

Poseidon father Chrysaor and Pegasus through Medusa. They had sex on the floor of Athena's temple and Athena angrily turned Medusa into a Gorgon. Chrysaor and Pegasus were born from the blood spilled when Perseus chopped off Medusa's head.
