Tonbridge Grammar School is a public grammar school in Tonbridge, United Kingdom. In the near future Tonbridge Grammar School will be completely reconstructed, for the school buildings aren't the most modern ever.
Tonbridge Grammar School is a Maths and Computing specialist school, though it does well in all subjects. The teachers are friendly and the Head-teacher, Mrs R. Joyce, who just joined in Easter 2005, is very kind too.
The school does lots of fundraisers and has helped lots of charities over the years. Also, on site, is an animal house, where all years can come and help look after them. The animal house is run by some Sixth Formers, as are lots of clubs.
The school celebrated its centenary in 2005 with many events held in and around the school. It was also a year of great change for the school with the appointment of a new headteacher after the long standing Mrs Careys decision to leave and the further contiuation of the proposals for the new buildings in which to house some of the school. The departure of Mrs Carey saw an end to a long and successful career within the school, in which its status as a specialist school in maths and ict was granted. The school also holds many other impressive titles such as the artsmark gold, the investor in people award and a leading edge status. These among others reflect the schools position as one of the top ranking grammar schools in the country.
Entry requirements to the school are exceptionally high, and the results achieved are generally impressive. The school previously an all girls school has recently been accepting a small number of boys into the schools sixth form. The first proper intake being in 2002 when around 14 boys entered the school.
The school has a well established prefect system made up of sixth forms who hold the positions for a year. Leadership and responsibility is encouraged in the school from an early age with house captains and form representatives leading their peers. There are five houses in which pupils are assigned to when they start the school in which they compete for points and house cups in sports, drama and academic skills. The houses are named after previous headteachers- Mitcherner, Hiscock, Taylor, Arnold and fayerman.
