The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra is regarded as the only professional orchestra in the Philippines. It was initially organized in 1973, named as the CCP Philharmonic Orchestra. It is an orchestra meant to accompany those musical shows and artists performing at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. With its reorganization in 1979, it was renamed Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra three years later. At present, they have a September to March concert season, and in addition to this, they perform at the celebrated Bamboo Organ Festival, and gives free concerts in Rizal Park. Being a CCP-based orchestra, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra is now under the tutelage of Maestro Ruggero Barbieri as its musical director.
