ktsquare and Eclecticology suggested a wikiproject battles.

Articles titles should follow the format: Battle of whatever. If disambiguation is needed years are added in parenthesis, as Battle of whatever (whenever)
"Battle" is a good NPOV generic term. Substitutes like attack, slaughter, raid, etc. should be avoided.

Imho wikipedia should contain an entry for every major battle. As a major battle I would suggest:

  • every historical battle that had 10000 or more men on either side
  • every battle that is generally consideerd decisive for the outcome of a (civil) war

I suggest that, aside from the project box as currently present at the Battle of Lutzen, every battle has at least an attempt to describe:

  • the prelude to the battle: : why, previous movement of forces, which campaign
  • a description of the battle
  • the aftermath

What do you think of it?
