Message from 3dnatureguy
Hi Martyman. I really do respect your dedication, and I'd like to totally co-operate with you and the other editors, who I see are all serious Wikepedia contributors. I haven't added new pictures, only the little icon that I think helps to define the nature of the image. An editor in Germany, came up with that, not me. But it is a good visual interface element, in my opinion. It could be made smaller, but that is not my icon. I think the size of the images has been some ofthe problem, so I have tried to reduce their size, as an example to show you and those concerned.I'm assuming that only you are seeing this, so please take it as a one o one. I take no offense, and in fact, truly apologize for any disrespect that you may think I may harbor. I don't. You're just a dedicated contributor. I will work with you, and I certainly will stop forging ahead willy-nilly. Maybe what I've posted has had a bias in favor of good 3D at the expense of my annoying idea of "compatability". It floats my boat, but clearly not yours! I get it now. There is in fact a different level of 3D,
that I might call "minimalist". Only perhaps, 1 person in a hundred would see it at half page size without glasses. Here is an example:

Hi, Matyman: I see it is not practical to send you an image that way. I'll put it on my talk page. It is is a camera.
Regarding "Nativeborncal", it was the name I used in discussing local California geography and issues. I seemed to be inapropriate for most general subjects. As a doctumentarian, favoring American Indian culture, it made me seem like a nativist is the "negative sense". I am outspokenly concerned about native peoples and preserving their cultures, art, in every way. 3Dnatureguy reflects my "green" leanings better. I don't intend to use the "native" name in future contributions. 3dnatureguy 21:53, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- I agree that the camera example above is pretty resonable, but have a few points to make. Can you possibly argue that the 3D effect in that image is anywhere near as good as the one next to it? Also I would postulate that a lot more than 1 in 100 could pick the degradation if it was placed side by side with the 2D version. Also the particular image is good for not showing a lot of 3D artifacts as it has no detail at a depth, and suggest if you applied the same filter to an image with a detailed high contrast distant background the artifacts would still be noticable. I would be much happier if every 3D image uploaded to wikipedia looked like the one on the right (with far superiour 3D effect) and also followed one of our guidelines and was paired with a 2D image or made available through a specific 3D images link to commons. PS. could you please answer the questions I posted at Wikipedia Talk:3D Illustrations on that page, thanks. --Martyman-(talk) 22:20, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
Sydney
Yes, I still want the map, colours for the different regions would be great to make them more obvious. A few more bits that could be added, but I'm not sure how practical some of them will be
- Paramatta since it's of historic interest
- Names of the Ocean/Sea, Bays and Rivers
- National Park names and/or outlines? (probably not very important, but interesting to show that Sydney is surrounded by NP)
Hi! I came across the above image which you'd created. The data for Delta Crucis looks like it might be incorrect, though. Its position is given as centered 3/4 across and 1/6 up. Comparison with the placement of the other stars suggests that it might be about 7/8 across and 13/24 up. I don't know the correct values; perhaps you might want to take a look at it. Regards BillC 09:52, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, the 3/4 across, 1/6 up is obviously wrong. Vexilla-mundi says 86.1% across, and 63% up. dbenbenn | talk 17:43, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
- [1], which is more likely to be correct, says 31/36 = 86.11...% across, and 151/240 = 62.916...% up. dbenbenn | talk 17:55, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
Mistaken star size in Australian flag template
Hi Martyman. Nice work on Image:Flag of Australia template.svg! I think there's a mistake. You say that the diameter of the large star is 3/20 the length of the flag, and the diameter of the small stars is 3/14 the length of the flag. Note that 3/14 is larger than 3/20. According to Vexilla-mundi, the 3/20 is right, and the small stars have diameter 143/2000 the flag length.
Also, it would be nice if you'd upload your construction sheet to the Commons. Thanks, dbenbenn | talk 17:29, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
- According to the template at [2], the smaller stars should have diameter 1/14 the flag length. I think that number is more trustworthy than Vexilla-mundi. dbenbenn | talk 17:52, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
Cool, thanks for pointing out the futher errors in my flag template. I think I must have forgotten to change the 3 to a 1 when I copied the text across from the big star. I got all my measurements from this and did the conversions in my head, so I am not too surprised I made some stupid mistakes. I will try to get a new version of it uploaded tonight. It is a shame that I can't get svg fonts to work out of illustrator or these changes could be made with a simple text editor, but as it is the text is included as shapes and I need to go back to the illustrator original to change things. --Martyman-(talk) 21:13, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
- Text included as shapes? Oh, evil! Maybe I'll give a shot at making it actual text some time. dbenbenn | talk 01:31, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
about the pictures
Hi, Martyman. I took all those pictures and I want to release them to the public domain. (I have some more; they are all made with a film photo camera and scanned afterwards)The problem is that is not always an easy task to choose from all that complicated copyright tags when you upload an image. When I first saw your message I tried to modify the copyright status but I couldn't figure out how. If you could explain me how to do it, I would be grateful. Cristibur, Feb 02, 2006, 00:21
Removing my info?
Hello,
Before you go and remove the information I have added, please go and check the sources. The information I am linking to is directly related to the topic, does not require registration to use, and covers, extensively, the species of reptile that I am linking the caresheet and information too.
This is not self propmotion but the spreading of additional information that is very relevant to the topics.
If you are not a reptile enthusiast, then I doubt you are aware of the negative and innacurate information found on the internet pertaining to their captive care.
If we are not allowed to link to quality information (several of the care articles I am linking to are published pieces of work in the Reptiles UK magazine), then what's the point of the external links section?
What AM I allowed to link to? I don't seem to understand how this site wants to have quality information when you won't allow the users to link to the quality info?
I would appreciate a response because if you follow the link, you will find that everything I have posted is very much relevant to the topics and is quality info. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Herp Center (talk • contribs)
Image copyright info
Hello - I have modified the explanation of the image in question here and added a fair use tag, but also a request for a review. I hope the deletion tag can be removed until the review is complete? Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Ramallite (talk) 16:36, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
I'm clicking on your communications box in hope that this will be a private message between two editors who mean well.
I shouldn't use a term like "mean spirited", because I don't think you are either. I was reacting to the tone of your telling me that my images were impropely labeled as to source, so would be rapidly removed. I really don't enjoy sparring with a person who's posted work is quite admirable. You're are passionate in your dedication to the Wiki ideal. I respect that. Frankly, I think I can learn to get along with any of the people who come to Wiki with good intent. Please cut me some slack as an " Newbie" to the culture. I can see now that I proceeded much too fast, to post potentially controversial images. By none of my doing, another highly critical, but well intended editor in Germany provided a nice little icon to reduce several of the problems, inate with 3D images. It serves as both a notice that the image is going to open with some 3D detail artifacting. And it encourages those who have the glasses to use them. It eliminates any text about "compatible 3D", leaving text to relate to the actual subject material. All of this is good.
We seem to see the 3D from a different perspecive. I know how many glasses have been distributed in 2005. It is between 25 and 40 million pair. I wouldn't expect many editors to know that, as most 3D activity is "below the public radar". The idea of "non-compatable 3D" is well demonstrated by the image of Old New York, that I took from a recent Wiki article to present as evidence" that "truly ugly 3D" exists, and is already on Wikipedia. Clients like ELI LILLY & CO. pay over 1000 dollars for me to convert a few images to 3D for trade show presentation. Along with Dr. Stoffer at the USGS, and and hundreds of smaller websites, I have helped to ratchet up the quality of 3D on-line images to a higher level. Our school of anaglyph puts normal picture quality, color, gamma, & detail ahead of deep 3D effect. The difference is usually like night and day. I have been multiple principle workshop presenter at most of recent National Stereoscopic Association conventions. I was the DMOZ editor for 3D stereo (under photography techniques) for over a year. At least half of the listing were added during my tenure in that role. Neither of us are on trial. You shouldn't have to respond to a long list of questions, and neither should I. At such time as we figuratively "shake hands as gentlemen who disagree" I'll trade friendly answers with you privately. I would be happy to send a few glasses to you for distribution to concerned editors. Since you are my most active critic, at this point, that can hardly be seem as "undo influence". I would be happy to provide up to 100 paper glasses to you (I don't make or sell them) and a half dozen plastic to you, for those who have been involved in the discussion. Feel free to treat this as public or private communication,It is intended for you only, but the call is yours. I greatly admire Australia's role in the world, and the perspective of Australians on-line. No more untoward remarks will come from me. It is possible that I don't understand fully what is proposed, but please take the effect of the "little icon" into consideration as you finalize the policy. I will only post examples on my User page, not in articles until the process is complete. I will also take steps to reload the images with proper source indicated. For the record 100% of the images have been my sole property until waived. Even the NASA images in 3D form can be copyrighted in their new format, if a reference to the conversion is plainly shown. I have waived rights on everthing, but apparently not properly. Give me a week to run down the images and I'll fix them. This is both an apology and a promise to follow through with corrections.69.237.12.19 20:08, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Bad musician articles
Since they both make some claims to notability, they should probably go to AfD.--nixie 23:08, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
