Guest characters

These characters made a one-time appearance in the console ports of Soul Calibur II

Nintendo's Hylian hero from the Legend of Zelda series appears as a guest character on the GameCube version of Soul Calibur II.

Hyrule's tranquility was shattered by the arrival of several disasters, which brought opaque, ominous clouds with them. Eventually, it was discovered that an unknown magician was to blame for all that had happened. Just as the people were about to lose all hope, the sun miraculously returned as Link, having been summoned by Princess Zelda to find the disasters' source, successfully defeated the magician. The people of Hyrule rejoiced in the belief that eternal peace would rule; but it eventually became clear that the magician responsible for the disasters was in fact controlled by an evil sword from another world, Soul Edge, and that the fragments of Soul Edge had been gathering in the other world. Knowing that the resurrection of the evil blade must be prevented at all costs, Link chose to travel to the other world and destroy Soul Edge himself. He gathered his trusted Master Sword and Ocarina of Time, and transported himself off on a secret journey. In the game, Link has access to a variety of weapons taken from several games in the Zelda series, including the Biggoron Sword, Cane of Byrna, Megaton Hammer, the Magic Sword and Shield from the original The Legend of Zelda, and even the bug-catching net from A Link To The Past.

The indestructible villain from the Tekken series appears as a guest character on the PlayStation 2 version of Soul Calibur II.

After completing his mountain training with his pet bear, Kuma, Heihachi stopped by at a hot springs resort to recuperate. There he encountered an ancient metallic fragment. According to old picture scrolls, this shard was a piece of Soul Edge, a notorious sword from medieval Europe. Grabbing the fragment in excitement, he accidentally cut his fingertip; and after a moment of dizziness passed, Heihachi looked around at his surroundings. A feeling of uneasiness washed over him as he was no longer at the resort he had been at just a few moments ago. He was stunned, but nevertheless remained collected. After he wandered for a while, he concluded that he was no longer in twenty-first-century Japan. He had somehow traveled back in time to the later sixteenth century. Though he wanted to return to his own time, part of him was trembling with anticipation of what was about to transpire. He knew the history behind the fragment, which was ripe with battles between warriors fighting for its possession. Now, he was right in the midst of it all. He eventually decided that finding and obtaining Soul Edge was the perfect challenge to test his strength and proceeded to seek it out. Heihachi uses various arm guards as his "weapons".

Todd McFarlane's demonic anti-heroic hellspawn from the popular eponymous comic book series appears as a guest character on the Xbox version of Soul Calibur II.

Upon his death, Lieutenant Al Simmons made a pact with the devil in order to return to the world of the living. But the resurrection of the dark lord Malebolgia produced a result that was far different from anything Simmons had envisioned. His body, memories of the past, and even time were taken from him. His fate was to exist as a spawn of hell. He was then sent to the sixteenth century on a mission to retrieve the Soul Edge. Spawn had to obey his master, for it was his only chance of returning to his time period. In the game, Spawn's trademark cape is said to have assumed the form of an axe, most likely for the real-world reason of avoiding rendering complexities.

Japanese Voice Actor: Akio Ôtsuka.

Minor characters

A generic assassin unlockable only in North American and European console ports of Soul Calibur II. Although his fighting style is identical to that of Hwang Seong-gyeong, he has no biographical association with any character in the series. in Soul Calibur III, Assassin is no longer a specific character, but is a character class in the Create a Soul mode. In some characters' stories, generic Assassins appear as opponents.

Note: It has been pointed that Assassin has a profile in the "Soul Calibur 2 Official Complete Guide". It doesn't state nothing more than they ("Assassin" is actually a bunch of people) are of unknown origin and search the fragments of Soul Edge.

- SC II - A generic berserker unlockable only in North American and European console ports of Soul Calibur II. Although his fighting style is identical to that of Nathaniel "Rock" Adams, he has no biographical association with any character in the series.

-SC III - Berserker is an unplayable enemy character put under a spell by Nightmare. He uses the Lance Discipline. Though officially not unlockable, he can easily be made in the Create a Soul mode.

Note: It has been pointed that Berserker has a profile in the "Soul Calibur 2 Official Complete Guide". It state that the Berserkers ("Berserker" is actually a bunch of people) are people corrupted by the Evil Seed. Only the strongest ones are still alive, and they had been spotted in Eastern Europe following a strange armored man with a scar on it and a monster throught the forest.

Seong Han-myeong

Note: Prior to Soul Calibur III, Han-myeong's name is written as Seung Han Myong.

- SE - Seong Han-myeong was the master of his own dojo in Chirisan, Korea. He was especially skilled in martial arts, which gained him great respect across the country. He had one daughter and one son, but his son and wife died of sickness, leaving only Seong Mi-na to continue his lineage. He worried for her every day, and taught her how to take care of herself by teaching her the ways of martial arts, and she had even become more skilled with the zhǎnmǎdāo than he ever had, but he still wished she would settle down and stay home. There was another child at the dojo, the orphan Hwang Seong-gyeong, in whom Han-myeong had taken a particular interest. The young man had even distinguished himself enough to win a private lesson with the master, and Han-myeong was overwhelmed with happiness at the young man's potential. He saw this as an opportunity to have a son once again and considered adopting him, but Hwang had joined the Coastal Forces, and the opportunity never arose. He decided that once Hwang returned, he could ask him then. The young man returned sooner than expected, but it was only to ready himself for an important mission on behalf of the leader of the Coastal Forces, Admiral Lee Sun Shin, a childhood friend of Seong Han-myeong, to seek out the "Sword of Salvation," the Soul Edge. To show his appreciation, Han-myeong decided to hold a private conversation with the young man and offered to him his most prized sword, Mountain Breaker; but Hwang politely declined the offer, because it was Han-myeong's favorite weapon, and he left to fight with his own weapons.

All along, Mi-na had been listening in on their private conversation. Han-myeong knew she had previously tried to join the Coastal Defense but was rejected on account of her gender. The next day, as she was sneaking out of the house, he stopped her and asked where she was off to. She did not lie to him, but he was still not happy with what she had told him: She was off to find the Soul Edge on her own. He admonished her and ordered her to stay home, but she pushed him out of the way and ran off. Not long afterwards, news spread of an impending Japanese invasion of Korea, and most of his pupils left to join the Coastal Defense immediately. Upon hearing of the invasion, Hwang had cut his search short and returned home, dragging Mi-na along with him. When Mi-na had arrived, Han-myeong was waiting for her. He scolded her and made her endure a strict training regimen. Thanking Hwang for his help, he finally gathered the courage to ask the young man to be his son, but the offer was politely declined. Han-myeong did not give up there, for he began to plan a marriage for Hwang and Mi-na, making Mi-na grow very angry with him and run away soon afterwards. He was stricken with grief but also considered that perhaps he had always been too protective of her, as she was perfectly capable of taking care of herself. But she never returned for months, and he began to become extremely worried, even requesting the aid of Lee Sun Shin, who could not help him due to the invasion. But his worries were somewhat reduced when Lee Sun Shin sent Hwang on a mission to find her; and, three years later, the two of them returned. Han-myeong apologized to Mi-na for being too overprotective for all those years and promised to treat her as an adult from that day forward. Four years later, Han-myeong had acquired another student of immeasurable potential, Hong Yun-seong, but the proud boy had sneaked away on a personal mission for the Soul Edge, taking a Seong family heirloom with him, the dao White Storm. Mi-na came to Han-myeong in a private conversation and revealed to her father that she had been the one to give White Storm to the boy, not knowing he would run away with it, and felt obliged to retrieve it. Han-myeong did not want her to go, but he knew in his heart that even if he protested, she would simply run away again; he reluctantly gave her his blessing to retrieve it. By the time he considered that she would, in fact, try to seek out and destroy the Soul Edge on her journey, it was too late, and she was long gone.

- SC II - Created by well-known comic book writer Todd McFarlane, the vague design and biography of this bizarre character was created specifically for Soul Calibur II. He was possibly a Roman warrior that once managed to obtain the Soul Edge. The corrupt energy of the evil blade, however, poisoned his body and mind, and he became something other than human before eventually losing the sword in a nondescript battle. Now a bloodthirsty abomination, he sought the one thing that gave him relief to his constant pain: the fragments of the Soul Edge. Traveling the world in search of its fragments, he wields a weapon made from the same evil energy of his former glory, able to mimic various weapons, as his moveset consists almost entirely of different moves picked and chosen from the existing cast of characters--particularly Astaroth, Cervantes, Ivy, Nightmare, Taki, Talim and Voldo. His only thoughts are to collect every piece he could find. He is known by many as one of the most hated characters in the Soul Calibur universe, due to his use of several good moves stolen from other characters.

Abelia

- SC III - An unlockable "bonus character" in Chronicles of the Sword. In combat, she wields the sword and shield, Eternal Rest.

Aurelia

Chester

- SC III - An unlockable "bonus character" in Chronicles of the Sword. In combat, he wields the dagger Kingslayer.

Demuth

Luna

Strife

- SC III - An unlockable "bonus character" in Chronicles of the Sword. In combat, he wields the iron sword Ambition.

Shadow Master

- SC III - An unplayable opponent, completely obscured in shadow, in some characters' stories. He is identified as Edge Master's evil form.

Doppelgänger

- SC III - An exact double of the player's character, wielding the same weapon and wearing the same costume in the same colors, encountered occasionally in Tales of Souls mode. The character starts the match completely shadowed, and becomes more and more clearly visible as the player loses energy and becomes shadowed.

Boss Characters

Inferno

- SC I - Through many years of bloodshed and absorbing souls, Soul Edge eventually gained a soul, the "Catastrophe", Inferno. It is the physical embodiment of the Soul Edge, and memories of the warriors it has defeated have been permanently crytallized in it. After Sophitia Alexandra and Taki defeated its power in the hands of the dread pirate Cervantes, it used its remaining energy to beckon Siegfried Schtauffen, and its ability to have access to more souls became prominent once again. It created a desolate land called Chaos--an illusion of time and light created by the awakening of Soul Edge's true form, and a realm in which Inferno created his own set of rules to ensure his victory every time. The sole portal into this world was contained in Ostrheinsburg Castle, and the azure knight, Nightmare, was its keeper. Its defeat at the hands of Chai Xianghua, the wielder of the holy sword Soul Calibur, however, caused him to become banished into the fiery hells of Tartaros. But this change in scenery did not become entirely disadvantageous, as the fires that surround him feed his power...

- SC II - While banned in the underworld, the god Hades kept close watch over Inferno, giving Inferno few chances to escape and fight other souls in other worlds. Its portal was contained in the Ostrheinsburg Chapel, and when he fought in this desolate realm, he never lost, and nobody ever left alive. Inferno appears in Soul Calibur II as the final boss, but he is not playable.

- SC III - Although not directly mentioned, Nightmare in this game is really Inferno, or at least a part of him. Zasalamel helps the wicked spirit become Nightmare again. Later on, he absorbs both swords (now called "Soul Embrace") to become something much more...

Abyss

- SC III - Soul Edge and Soul Calibur... if Zasalamel were to absorb the power contained within these two swords...

Zasalamel put this idea into action. It was an idea no normal person would ever consider, but for Zasalamel, it was his chance to attain true death.

He hid behind the scenes during the battle between the cursed sword and the spirit sword, appearing only when their powers reached their zenith. Then, using a secret art, he connected his body to the world of the abyss and created a jet-black magnet that absorbed all forms of energy. His plan was to use this to draw out the essences of the two swords and take them into his body. It was an act that only Zasalamel, with the knowledge gained from an eternity of lifetimes, could have performed.

Clusters of darkness, most pure and fierce, were released from the swords. For a moment, they seemed to struggle as if they had a will of their own, but then proceeded to be absorbed into Zasalamel's body. Power coursed through has entire body, and he began to transform.

At the end of an experience completely different from his countless rebirth, he had obtained sharpness of sense, overflowing power, and a voice that thundered like an echoing roar. Zasalamel must have thought that, having acquired this power, his goal had been achieved. The power and evil that he had sought was right before his eyes. But deep within him, something other than himself was beginning to awaken. He had invited into himself an inhuman power...

Abyss wields the scythe Irkalla, which is the same weapon as Zasalamel's ultimate weapon, except it has no special effects.

Night Terror

- SC III - A form of Soul Edge's spirit that kills Zasalamel after he absorbs the "Soul's Embrace". He recreates his world known as Chaos to challenge those who wish to battle him. He is shown without being selectable. His wings prevent him from losing by ringout. Luckily, you can still view his own profile after beating him. It can be found where all the other character profiles are. Night Terror is the true boss of Soul Calibur 3 and can be accessed several different ways. Each character has their own specific path you must travel where you must pass/fail specific tasks in their Tale of Souls to enable access to this secret battle. You can also fight Night Terror in the Soul Arena after you have unlocked "Final Battle". A video demonstration of Night Terror can be found here (external login required). Night Terror uses the Weapon Soul Edge (Complete). This is because Soul Calibur is part of Soul Edge (purified), and it's power combined with that of the rest of Soul Edge finally completes the blade. Although his weapon doesn't seem to give him any special abilities, if it were unlockable, it would likely be the most powerful weapon in the game. You can fight him by completing a character's Tales of Souls in a specific path without dying once. You can also see him in Nightmare's good ending.

Story: When an action is so reckless that it will bring about one's own destruction, it is often too late by the time one realizes it. For Zasalamel, the appearance of Night Terror was a perfect example of this.

Even Zasalamel had underestimated the power of the cursed sword. It far surpassed that of his secret arts. During the ritual when Zasalamel attempted to take the power of Soul Edge for himself, it fused with not only the summoned Nightmare, but with even the power of Soul Calibur, becoming a terrible incarnation of pure destructive will. It is likely that Zasalamel never even saw its form - Night Terror. Perhaps it had retraced the memories of the blue armor, or perhaps it had a remnant of the self-will that had formed while it used Siegfried as a host. Whatever the case, this entity bore a slight resemblance to Nightmare. It easily escaped Zasalamel's control and appeared behind him, wielding its power like a raging current, and obliterated him.

The man who had craved death met his end - though not in the way he had intended. In his place, an unprecedented catastrophe gained wing and claw and was released upon the world.
