"Come Clean" is a single by American singer Hilary Duff, the third (second in the UK) from her 2003 debut album Metamorphosis. It was written by Kara DioGuardi and John Shanks, and the CD single was released in the United States on January 20, 2004 (see 2004 in music) by Festival Records. In this song, Duff proclaims that she is "coming clean", and pleads for the rain to "wash away my sanity".

After receiving solid airplay on MTV and MuchMusic, as well as substantial radio airplay, the single became one of Duff's most popular songs, peaking at thirty-five on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

The single's music video was directed by Dave Meyers. In the video, Duff is shown in her house walking from room to room waiting for her boyfriend to come, who is stuck in the rain. While walking, her friends come over and watch television with her in her living room. At the end of the video, her boyfriend makes it to her house and she is shown hugging him in the rain.

"Come Clean" was eventually certified as a gold single by the RIAA in December 2005.

The song was also used as the theme for MTV's reality show Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County.

Song

Hilary and her writing team reportedly chose the title "Come Clean" to get Aaron Carter to Come Clean and tell Hilary about him Cheating on her.

It was written with the help of Hilary's sister Haylie Duff who also helped produce the song. The song was recorded and was set to be the first single. After a poll at Hilary's official website, So Yesterday was chosen to be released.

Let's go back, back to the beginning. Back to when the Earth, the Sun, the Stars all align. Cause perfect, didn't feel so perfect. Trying to fit a square into a circle was no life. I defy...
