The Girls Next Door is an eight-part reality television series on E! Entertainment network in late summer 2005. It is the brainchild of executive producer Kevin Burns and Hugh Hefner. The series focused on the lives of Hefner's three girlfriends living with him at the Playboy Mansion: Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt and Kendra Wilkinson, with Hefner making cameo appearances in each episode. Various Playmates and playmate hopefuls also have cameo appearances.
The series not only showcased events at the Playboy Mansion (e.g. Fight Night, 4th of July celebration), it also shed light in other Playboy related events, such as Playboy Jazz Festival at Hollywood Bowl, Playboy playmate test shoots at Playboy Studio West, Operation Playmate, Party night, birthday parties, etc.
To celebrate the success of the series, Playboy published a special nude pictorial of Holly, Bridget and Kendra in its November 2005 issue. The original 8-episode run was expanded to 15 episodes with the season finale airing in early December 2005.
The tagline of the show is, "You call it fantasy, they call it home."

Ratings
Very little is known about the ratings of The Girls Next Door, since cable ratings are rare to find. But it is known that the series premiere, Meet the Girls/My Kind of Town fared very well. 990,000 viewers tuned in, which caused a 0.5 rating/1 share among adults 18-49. While a "1" share may not sound great, it doubled from what E! previously had on in that timeslot.
