Template:Liberal party At the moment this Schematic history of liberal parties around the world is far from complete and in the upcoming periods new countries will be added. It is limited to liberal parties with substantial support, mainly proved by having had a representation in parliament.

  • 1841: The Upper Canada Reform Party is formed
    • 1855: Radical members form the Clear Grits.
      • 1867: The Reform Party merges into Liberal Party of Canada
  • 1848: Liberals in the Francophone part of Canada form the Parti rouge
    • 1867: The PR merges into the present-day Liberal Party of Canada
  • 1855: Radical members of the Reform Party form the Clear Grits
    • 1867: The Clear Grits merge with the Reform Party, the Parti rouge and provincial liberal parties merge with the Parti Rouge into the present-day Liberal Party of Canada

Denmark

  • 1840: The Nationalliberale Parti is formed
    • 1884: The Nationalliberale Parti merges into the conservative Høyre
  • 1870: Liberal farmers form the liberal party Det Forenede Venstre
    • 1892: Det Forende Venstre falls apart in the Venstrereformpartiet and Det Moderate Venstre
      • 1905: A radical faction of the VRP secedes as present-day Det Radikale Venstre
        • 1910: VRP and Det Moderate Venstre merge into Venstre
          • 1934: A right-wing faction secedes as the conservative Det Frie Folkeparti
            • 1965: A left-wing faction forms Liberalt Centrum

        • 1884: The DFP merges with the Liberale Vereinigung into the Deutsche Freisinnige Partei
          • 1893: The DFsP splits in the Freisinnige Volkspartei and the Freisinnige Vereinigung
            • 1910: The FVP merges with the Freisinnige Vereinigung and the Deutsche Volkspartei into the Fortschrittliche Volkspartei
              • 1918: The FoVP is reorganised into the Deutsche Demokratische Partei, incorporating parts of the Nationalliberale Partei
                • 1930: The DDP in an attempt to survive reorganises itself into the Deutsche Staatspartei
                  • 1933: The DStP is banned by the Nazi's
                    • 1945: Liberals in East Germany re-organise themselves into the Liberaldemokratische Partei Deutschlands

    • 1910: The DV merges into the Fortschrittliche Volkspartei
  • 1945: Liberals in East Germany re-organise themselves into the Liberaldemokratische Partei Deutschlands. Since 1949 the party is under control of the communist dictatorship
    • 1990: The LDPD regains its liberal profile and is renamed Liberaldemokratische Partei, Bund Freier Demokraten, absorbs the Nationaldemokratische Partei Deutschlands and the Deutsche Forumpartei and finally merges into present-day Freie Demokratische Partei
  • 1982: A left-wing faction of the Freie Demokratische Partei forms the present-day Liberale Demokraten, without succes

    • 1901: A second radical faction of the Liberale Unie merges with the Radicale Bond into the Vrijzinnig Democratische Bond
      • 1917: A right-wing faction secedes as the Economische Bond
        • 1946: The VDB merges into the present-day Partij van de Arbeid, a faction joins the Partij voor de Vrijheid
          • 1948: Some former members leave the Partij van de Arbeid and merge into the present-day Volkspartij voor Vrijheid en Democratie
