Behind the Mask: The Blooding of Hannibal Lecter is a novel written by The Silence of the Lambs author Thomas Harris to be published in 2006. It is set before Red Dragon in Hannibal Lecter's early years. It will explain how Lecter developed his particular appetite for evil.
The novel, to be published by Delacorte Press, is expected to be released in autumn of 2006.
A film adaptation, Young Hannibal, is in the works for a 2006 release. The film will be directed by Peter Webber from a screenplay by Harris. The Weinstein Co. will distribute the film in the United States.
