Pokémon Fire Red and Pokémon Leaf Green are to be the latest games in the world famous Pokémon video game series. They are due to be released on the Gameboy Advance system.
Pokémon Fire Red and Pokémon Leaf Green are remakes of the original Pokémon video games released in Japan, Red and Green. As of January 29, 2004, the games have been released in Japan and all kinds of information about the games are being found. A North American release date of September 9, 2004 has been recently announced along with a European release date of October 1, 2004.
The games feature the original 150 Pokémon that was featured in the original Game Boy games and more. Also, the games are compatible with the GameCube game, Pokémon Colosseum and the Gameboy Advance games, Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. It should also have support for Pokémon Box. Its compatability with these games has lead its graphics to be very similar (though not identical) to the ones in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.
New features
Currently, the games are in that period of discovery where players are still finding out what all the new things in the games are. Currently known about the games include:
- They are remakes of the original Japanese Pokémon games, Red and Green.
- Gender selection has been added like in the previous Pokémon Crystal, Ruby, and Sapphire games.
- They include new items such as the Battle Searcher, which is what the trainers have on their bag straps in the picture.
- They feature the original 150 Pokémon, most of which were not found in the GameBoy Advance games, Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.
- Also featured are brand new islands called the Sevii Islands, which are initially unlocked by doing certain things within the games.
- On these new islands, Pokémon that can't be found in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire or within the normal run of the game are available. This includes many of the Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Silver, Gold.
- Thanks to the Sevii Islands, there are a large number of legendary, rare, and unique Pokémon that can found in this game. Pokémon that are included are Mewtwo and the legendary birds Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres, who were in the original versions of Red and Green); Ho-Oh, Lugia, and the legendary beasts, Raikou, Entei, and Suicune, who were from the Gold/Silver/Crystal games originally; and last but not least, Deoxys, who has an exclusive form with high offensive power when used in Fire Red, and an exclusive form with high defensive power when used in Leaf Green. To access Deoxys you will need an item obtainable only from upcoming Nintendo events.
