The Iosef Stalin tank, named after Joseph Stalin, was a tank developed by the Soviet Union during World War II. Production started in 1942 and was increased in 1943 due to the performance of the German Panther and Tiger tanks at Kursk. The IS-2 was the first production version and was equipped with a 122mm gun. In 1944 the design was upgraded to the IS-3 which had improved armor and a semicircular cast turret.

The IS-3 remained in the Red Army until the late 1960s and even later in the armies of China and North Korea
