History
- It was officially founded in September 21, 1608 as was disposed in D. Fernando Valdés Salas' will. In its beginnings the University has four Schools: Arts, preparatory for the other ones, Law, Cánones and Theology.
- The Schools’ operation rules were given in this testament, in the Old Statutes (Estatutos Viejos) and the rules of Salamanca University in no-contemplated cases. This fact implicate that Oviedo University has the same auto-government capacity that other Universities in Spain. Auto-government become apparent in the Academic Privilege (Fuero Académico), the Rector is a supreme judge with civil, penal and even religious competences.
- In this moment the University has five campuses: El Milán, Llamaquique, El Cristo, Viesques (Gijón) and campus of Mieres where the follow schoolings are imparted:
