Aragorn, known in Bree as Strider, is of the line of Elendil. He is a Ranger from the North, a scattered band of Men whose main job is to keep the northern peoples safe from evil.

He first meets Frodo at the Prancing Pony, where he chides Frodo for calling attention to himself. After some difficulty establishing his true identity, he guides Frodo and his three companions Rivendell and is made one of the Nine companions of the Quest.

By the end of The Lord of the Rings, he is established as the King of Gondor (and much of the surrounding lands).
