Burj Dubai is a 705-metre (2,313 feet) skyscraper currently under development in Dubai, United Arab Emirates by Emaar Properties. The developer's website claims that "it will beat all records and on a scale that will be a dramatic testament to Dubai's faith in the future" [1].

Designed to be completed around 2008, it is a formidable threat to other bids to be the world's tallest building, such as Taipei 101, the Freedom Tower in New York, Union Square Phase 7 or Shanghai World Financial Center. It would also break the records currently held by various non-floored structures and TV/radio masts, as it would the become the tallest structure of any kind in history.

Eventually, Burj Dubai is designed to be the the centerpiece of a large scale mixed use development that will include commercial, residential, shopping, entertainment and leisure outlets.

The BinLadenGroup, a large construction company owned by the family of Osama bin Laden, is one of the companies bidding for the construction of the skyscraper, according to this link
