Tips on CJK Computing
How to see CJK characters instead of the squares?
- Download traditional Chinese from this site from Hong Kong and simplified Chinese from Microsoft. If these two fonts don't work, there are tons of alternative fonts on this page about Unicode fonts. The author of the font page also created another page with general info about "Unicode character ranges and the Unicode fonts that support them".
How to get the HTML Unicode for CJK characters?
- In Internet Explorer:
- Select encoding to be Western European. (An important step, it wouldn't work otherwise)
- Type the characters in Google's search field and click enter.
- The result page that comes up will have the the characters in code in teh search field.
- Note: It only works with ten or less characters. Any more characters will result in the shutdown of the explorer (version 5.0).
- See Wikipedia talk:Wikipedians/China for an alternative method.
- In Mozilla:
- It automatically converts.
How to get the Han'geul when you don't have a Han'geul input (typing) program?
- I don't have means to enter Han'geul, so I enter the Hanja at Korean Yahoo and the result page that turns up contain entries in Han'geul. Most of the time there will be pages that turn up, but not all the time.
To discuss something with me, please post on my Talk Page (all old discussions have been moved there).
