How did it get its name?

Oglebay Norton Company vs. Montreal Mining Company

I grew up in Montreal and always thought the Montreal Mine was operated by the Cleveland based company Oglebay Norton. I am curious if the Montreal Mining Company was the local entity of Oglebay Norton company. Can anyone verify this? Also, I am not sure if it is correct to say that Montreal was named for the Montreal Mining Company. I am not able to prove other wise, but alway believed that Montreal was discovered by French Canadians via the Montreal River and they named the city after Montreal in Canada. I am scouring several resources now to try to verify this, but unsuccessful. Anyone else? Thanks Emilynothing 19:36, 19 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
