Etihad Airways is a national airline based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, operating routes to the Middle East, Europe, Asia, the Indian subcontinent and North America. Its main base is Abu Dhabi International Airport. Etihad Airways is a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization.

History

The airline was established in 2003 and started operations on November 13 2003. It is wholly owned by the Government of Abu Dhabi. It Has Been Rated a 3 Star Airline by Skytrax


World's Leading New Airline Award

In December 2004 it won the 'World's Leading New Airline Award' at the 11th World Travel Awards

in Barbados



Destinations

Etihad offers International flights, and flights to gulf countries. The various destinations include Toronto via Brussels, London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Paris CDG, Geneva, Brussels, Munich, Frankfurt, Beirut, Damascus, Amman, Cairo, Bahrain, Riyadh, Jeddah, Muscat, Colombo, Mumbai, Karachi, New Delhi, Bangkok and soon Manila...

Loyalty Programmes

On August 30, 2006, Etihad Airways launched a new loyalty programme named Etihad Guest.

The airline has placed orders for four Airbus A380 aircraft for delivery in 2007. It has also purchased 20 other Airbus aircraft, including four Airbus A340-500 (delivery from 2006), four Airbus A340-600 (delivery from 2007) and 12 Airbus A330-200 (delivery from 2006). The new aircraft will be deployed to further develop its expanding network in the Middle East, Europe, Asia and North America.

Etihad also has a cargo division named Etihad Crystal Cargo. Etihad Crystal Cargo flew the first commercial cargo flight between Abu Dhabi international airport and Frankfurt International Airport. Its fleet consists of the following (as of August 2006):
