Alessandra Ambrosio (born April 11, 1981) is a Brazilian supermodel. Her last name is spelled in Portuguese as Ambrósio, but she quite logically omits the diacritic mark in her modeling work, because English is a top language in the international clothing business, and Portuguese isn't. She is one of the models of the Guess? company and the "Next" company of the UK, and she is one of the Victoria's Secret Angels.

Alessandra Ambrosio was part of the wave of Brazilian models that emerged after Gisele Bündchen blazed the path. One of the star models of that group, of which fellow Victoria's Secret/Guess? Model (and her best friend) Ana Beatriz Barros is a member, the 5 ft 10 in, light brown-haired Ambrosio advanced her career in the late 1990's into the 2000's. Allesandra was born in Erexim, a small town in southern Brazil. As an early teen, she enrolled in a modeling class, and subsequently she was entered into the Elite modeling agency's 1996 "Look of the Year" modeling competition. Though she did not win, one year later she was offered an Elite modeling contract.

Her first big modeling job to do the cover of the Brazilian Marie Claire magazine, and then Allesandra followed with other "editorial" work. It was not long after that the Marcianos at the "Guess?" company signed up Ambrosio for their fall Millennium campaign in 2000. Her lucrative print career began with being a "Guess?" Girl, and then continued with deals with Revlon and with Victoria's Secret. Ambrosio modeled on the Victoria's Secret runway for the first time in 2000, and she continued to be a participant in the subsequent shows. Allesandra was also picked to be the spokesmodel for the 2004 Pink line by Victoria's Secret.

Trivia

As a child, she felt insecure about her appearance, particularly of her large, obvious ears. At age 11, she had her ears surgically pinned back.
At the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2005, she wore bra and panties made entirely out of candy, along with a pair of V.S. angel wings.
She appeared in the MTV show Slater Celebrity Surfer Invitational recently, earning a small award.
On a 2005 Supermodel episode of The Tyra Banks Show, she admitted that she had plastic surgery on her ears, saying that they were too large. Because the surgery had been a bad experience for her, she said she is self-discouraged from having plastic surgery again, despite the fact that she might prefer larger boobs as a Victoria's Secret model.
She appeared on the Bravo show Project Runway (Season 2) as a guest judge on the episode "Team Lingerie".

In the April 2006 issue of Glamour magazine, Alessandra revealed that she had been dating Brazilian male model Marcelo Boldrini for six years. She is believed to be sometimes dating Steve Allain, the editor of Fluir magazine.
She enjoys the sport of sandboarding, and also lounging on the beach listening to Brazilian music.
Her favorite place in the world still remains her tiny hometown, and having traveled the world has not yet convinced her otherwise.
