The Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology is an institute of higher learning in Daedeok Science Town, Daejeon, Korea.
Established in 1981 through the amalgamation of Korea Advanced Institute of Science (KAIS) with Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), it has 7,000 students, 800 teaching staff.
It is controlled by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The Institute's purpose is to provide highly qualified scientists and engineers, to perform mid- to long-term basic and applied research, and to provide a research platform for other institutions.
According to evaluation by Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), “KAIST, the best university in Korea, is considered to be comparable to that of the top10% of U.S universities.” (“KAIST Facts,” 2002).
