Pierce County is a county located in the State of Washington. As of 2000, the population is 700,820.

The county has a total area of 4,679 km2 (1,806 mi2). 4,348 km2 (1,679 mi2) of it is land and 330 km2 (128 mi2) of it is water. The total area is 7.06% water.

As of 2000, there are 700,820 people, 260,800 households, and 180,212 families residing in the county. The population density is 161/km2 (417/mi2). There are 277,060 housing units at an average density of 64 persons/km2 (165 persons/mi2). The racial makeup of the county is 78.39% White, 6.95% African American, 1.42% Native American, 5.08% Asian, 0.85% Pacific Islander, 2.20% from other races, and 5.11% from two or more races. 5.51% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 260,800 households out of which 35.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.80% are married couples living together, 11.80% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 30.90% are non-families. 24.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.60 and the average family size is 3.10.
In the county, the population is spread out with 27.20% under the age of 18, 9.80% from 18 to 24, 31.30% from 25 to 44, 21.50% from 45 to 64, and 10.20% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 98.90 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.70 males.
