Buffalo

A buffalo is one of several species of large bovine, including Bubalus bubalis (the river water buffalo), Bubalus carabanesis (the swamp water buffalo), Bubalus depressicornis (the lowland anoa), Bubalus quarlesi (the mountain anoa), and Bubalus mindorensis (the tamaraw).

Note that neither Syncerus caffer (the Cape buffalo) nor Bison bison (the American bison) are, in fact, buffalos.
