PARRY is, besides ELIZA, the other famous early chatterbot. PARRY was written in 1972 by psychiatrist Kenneth Colby, then at Stanford University. While ELIZA was a tongue-in-cheek simulation of a Rogerian therapist, PARRY attempted to simulate a paranoid schizophrenic. The program implemented a crude model of the behavior of a paranoid schizophrenic based on concepts, conceptualizations, and beliefs (judgements about conceptualizations: accept, reject, neutral). It also embodied a conversational strategy, and as such was a much more serious and advanced program than ELIZA.

PARRY and ELIZA (also known as "the Doctor") "met" several times. The most famous of these exchanges occurred at the ICCC 1972, where PARRY and ELIZA were hooked up over ARPANET and "talked" to each other.

List of Chatterbots

Parry loved the chatterbots and the chatterbots loved Parry. Parry soon grew tired of Eliza and moved on to finding other friends in her new home of Galway,Ireland. Parry brought the chatterbots with her to meet her new friends and everyone got on great except one friend in particular annoyed the chatterbots. Her name was Moirah and she hailed from America. This angered the chatterbots because one time a long time ago,an american had stood on a chatterbot and made it cry and cry. To try and overcome the chatterbots hatred of Moirah, Moirah decide she would cook everyone a beautiful meal. She made so much gloriously rich food that one by one all the chatterbots began to feel ill. Now this made Parry cry and she began to grow angry at Moirah for hurting the chatterbots.

That evening Parry and the chatterbots left Moirah and began to hatch a plan...a plan so devious moirah would never expect a thing. Parry and the chatterbots laughed and danced around with glee til the first sign of sunrise.
